There’s a lack of infrastructure to finance lower income consumers/countries who want to transition away from fossil fuel power. Jamaica should have long had a higher solar target and it’s not a lack of wanting why people don’t convert

Some people want to act and don’t have the financing. I’m also in the education nonprofit space in Jamaica. Schools want to convert to solar and have to raise the funds to do so but have other needs such as actually feeding students who don’t eat regularly at home. So just wanting isn’t enough 1/2

I say this as someone who often didn’t apply for jobs that friends told me they thought I was a great fit 4. If you don’t qualify, they won’t pick you. I’m having whole other conversations about how we write position descriptions and exclude people who could make valuable contributions.

Just recalling that part of invisible women where they noted that. at Google, women and men had different rates of self promotion. Just wondering about the pool of people who recommend themselves and how this will affect outcomes. Not having good thoughts about the final outcomes

Keep having conversations about this. Descriptions of what qualified means (speaking without full context) tend to exclude people who could do or have done the job. There’s literally jobs people have done that they don’t qualify for by the job posting. Let someone else tell you this by applying.

Are the people planning to power their lives by #solar and the ones planning to slow warming by blocking out the sun speaking to each other #climatequestion #climate not to mention growing food. Can anyone explain the holistic plan here?

Evidence-based policy has never been enough. The question is how allocation decisions get made and how can those be influenced. It was interesting to be to see Covid mandates around the world but there isn’t the same urgency with climate.

NOAA just released their latest El Nino advisory. “Based on the latest forecasts, there is now a 54% chance of a "historically strong" El Niño during the Nov-Jan season (≥ 2.0°C in Niño-3.4). An event of this strength would potentially be in the top 5 of El Niño events since 1950.” Explainer here:

I actually thought about attacking multiple problems at once while doing this. Had read about an area denuded to moon like status and wondered could we create a model future city there. What would we do if we had to create a city from scratch? Also want to merge with helping refugees.

Curious about why we aren’t reforesting denuded areas of forest that is not needed to produce food. In particular, I think of mountains in Haiti

Who is writing these laws? Listening to Peter Zeihan that wood burning is considered carbon neutral #climate and thinking this is a European law? I find the fossil fuel industry much more credible than whoever wrote this www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Don’t throw out your apple peels and cores this week!!! Save them and make homemade apple cider vinegar. It’s *so delicious*, very fresh flavor, and absurdly easy to make. 🍽️🌱

Your reply will have me going bac to the definitions. Probably a good think. I thought of sequestration via tree planting idea as problematic due to the lack of guarantee that the trees are either going to be cut down or there’s not some offset cutting elsewhere.

What’s problematic w/ capture? I am now wondering if I have my definitions squared. First thoughts are that much of what I read is confusing. Unclear language to people who aren’t at least knee deep in it (who names these things??), other stuff contradictory from ppl who care about #climate

I’m interested in numbers that relate to this. Like how do you figure out how many cows should exist??? Recently read a book about all these elephants that were killed cuz they thought elephants were bad, then they were like oops.

This is so informative. I couldn’t understand why when I brought up hydrogen the issue of where the electricity came from was such a downer. Now it’s clear.

Is really not clear or meant to be catching or easily communicated. I think there are people who can be reached with clearer communication but I don’t see that at the moment. But that can be fixed on the climate side I think.

I get asked questions that I can’t answer, for example, and I haven’t found a free site that I can send people to for their answers. I’m currently reading GARP’s SCR text which is great but it’s not public. It’s really comprehensive and has helped me in my learning journey but the language 1/2

I’m not sure what the climate PR strategy is from #climate groups. When I speak to students, ed people, business people, almost no one is thinking of this. Is there a PR strategy to reach say voters and tell how it affects? Anti-climate PR seems very organized and strategic.

So having founded a nonprofit and tried to get volunteers, at least in Jamaica, people want/need to get paid. I’ve had more success getting US based (not necessarily Jamaicans) volunteers, particularly students who want to help other students.

Yes, I’m looking for what is it that is physically done to draw carbon and resuscitate the soil. There’s land degradation in an ecosystem called the cockpit country in Jamaica. Was thinking of whether this was viable for a small community of a few hundred people with not much resources to implement.

Aarne, most people have never heard if IPCC much less read the report. I am involved in education work in Jamaica, the functional literacy level is very low. That said, the emissions are mostly at higher income levels. I expect the faster than expected physical risk manifestations will move dials

That’s a huge lag that I don’t think is being communicated to college and high schools en masse. Certainly some people are aware of course. The actionable items for a regular person seems like it wouldn’t make a dent.

A few years ago, some friends were protesting a parking lot being built on wetlands. It was expected to increase flooding in the area. Now seeing the effect of methane on warming, wondering about the trade off. From a global perspective is it better that there’s less methane?
