I was stoked to be part of the crowd at Unity Books celebrating the launch of ‘Power to Win - The Living Wage Movement in Aotearoa New Zealand.’ Great to catch up with old colleagues and to be reminded that great things are possible when people/communities organise no matter who is in Govt. #Nzpol

Living wage employers stand by stance as business sentiment wanes: Businesses say paying a living wage is possible, even in current tough economic conditions. It comes as one of the founders of the living wage movement publishes a book in a bid to keep the momentum going. #nzpol

“Minimum-wage laws are intended to put an absolute bottom on the depths to which wages might otherwise sink left to their own—that is, corporate—devices. But minimum wages typically don’t approach what the church has called a just wage.” #LivingWage #Kikorangi

I was curious re changes in the gap between the Living Wage & the Minimum Wage... The sharp turn was last year - even though the min wage jumped up (nominally) by more than previous. This year is different, as the annual change graph shows. Min wage increase was only half even MBIE's recommendation.

The Living Wage considers basic expenses, and gives breathing room for rest, activities, or saving for a rainy day. It’s good for collective wellbeing, and our economy.
