My guess (and it's just a guess) is that it has something to do with performance metrics, like a depot gets penalized for having a parcel sitting at a certain status for too long so they bounce the statuses to avoid it getting flagged.

Incredibly jarring! I've noticed it especially when there are different narrators for each chapter from a different POV character. It's even worse (or funny) when they pronounce things differently from each other.

That sounds right. The Lexus dealer near me has a virtual golf and spa facility for when you're waiting. The last Ford dealership I went to had a couple of greasy chairs and a 70s era Mr. Coffee.

I don't know if it's a luxury dealer thing, or specific to Lexus, but I've encountered multiple dealerships where the experience is managed like a high end hotel. Pleasantly obsequious hospitality at every step, and competent service. But the Ford dealerships I've encountered...

It's almost impossible for some people to let go of something they "know". "It's the current that kills" is almost talismanic that way. One of my favorite misrememberings of a quote seems suitable: "You know, they say that common sense isn't as common as they say it is."

Yeah, I hate to admit it but I generally feel too old for games not because I hate fun, but because I have trouble finding time. If I have to invest X hours before getting anything out of a game, I can't deal with that level of commitment.

I'm in the same boat. I grew up playing what would now be derogatorily called "casual" games. Now every month or so my friend group will become obsessed with a new (repackaged mechanics) game, and by the time I check it out they're on to the next hype cycle. I've given up paying attention.
