Cheney only shows decency on topics that personally affects his family (ie, supporting LBGT rights because of one daughter and speaking out against Trump because the other is being threatened). It's his Unitary Executive Theory BS that helped get us here. Nevertheless, Welcometothepartypal.gif

The great thing about Project 2025 is they took everything we have been warning about for years and put it under a catchy name so finally people are taking it seriously. The power of branding.

Can't be overstated how bad sustained attention is for almost everything these guys say and do. It's a movement that thrives on disengagement from, and cynicism about, politics.

Obviously I'll vote for whoever is the candidate but I see a lot of people downplaying concerns and that is very dangerous. Not everybody is blue no matter who. They should at least be pumping up Harris' presence so people who are concerned can feel like there is a backstop.

Yeah, if there are any practical issues with it than it's a non-starrer. But I've heard some very smart political people who are generally pretty level headed considering it so I assume there are some nuances to all of this. In any case, the concerns are legit and need to be addressed.

i was just going to make a post about this. if trump decides you are an enemy of the state or a “threat to national security” and has you deported, citizenship or not, there’s nothing you can do to get home. he has full legal power to render you stateless.

Right now any choice is bad, but the polling is not going his way. Whitmer is saying he's lost her state already, partially because of Gaza. I was on the fence but all the new info definitely has me moving towards him not running again. Not sure how VP confirmation works.

It take's Big Tech's hatred of employing human beings to comically absurd levels. "We need to pay people to do something." "Not on my watch! We shall raise the dead!"

It’s so depressing watching all the same arguments play out this time around that we had in 2016. You’d think lessons would have been learned but not so much.

And remember, the Christian Right only took up abortion as a topic after they lost school segregation for good when the IRS went after Bob Jones’ U status, & needed a new issue to rally the troops. 1/x all our issues are intertwined. 🧵

When young people say "What's the point of voting?" you can point out that it's what gets you political power--not sitting out of the process. Unfortunately, young people only tend to understand this once they are no longer young voters.

People who cite exhaustion with politics as the reason for their disengagement need to understand how much more exhausting it’ll be if people who want to take away their rights win.

Cannot imagine what it's like to be an American History or Social Studies teacher right now, just ripping up old lesson plans and tests and shrugging at your students about how anything works at the moment.

What "purchased by Private Equity" is to business "by a 6-3 vote" is to the law. When you see an embarrassing failure, you already know that phrase is in the article.
(If people only understood how their vote connected to this reality).

Heat wave season reminder: one incident of severe heatstroke can cause an acute brain injury, as well as predispose you (generally temporarily) to getting heatstroke again. Do not push past early symptoms of heat exhaustion. Catch it as heat exhaustion, and avoid an ER visit for heatstroke.

The iPhone 4 was released in 2010 and there's a case to be made that every smartphone iteration since then has been relatively minor. Social media was also new enough in 2010 to still be fun and hadn't abetted any genocides yet (see Myanmar in 2017).

Is there a year that's generally acknowledged as peak tech? I can't remember when I went from being excited for new models and updates knowing they'd be a definitive step forward rather than dreading them as a step back but it definitely happened at least ten years ago.
