a tale of magic, love, and consumption. my first published story, which i got published to spite my friend who said i never finish stories. someone once said it's about vore, and it's not about vore, but if you like vore you'll probably like it.

some have said Wrath Goddess Sing is a book. others call it a temporarily embarrassed movie.

I would love to see these books in explicit conversation, though I suppose Lewis is too busy being a ghost to be susceptible to panel proposals. But TWHF is IMO his best book, and it's striking how much that book has in common with OKPsyche.

but! OKPsyche! Anya's book manages an incredible feat of hovering in the moment of piercing loss and finding beauty in ephemerality. the near-near-future worldbuilding, the weirdness, the cyberpunk elements, all of it was incredibly precise, like watercolor done with a very sharp brush

I was delighted to see so much of Apuleius's picaresque technique was being used, and also enjoyed the way the worldbuilding was definitely a back-projection of a Roman neoplatonist synthesis into an imagined ancient world. A lot of retellings tend to live in Received British Classics Greece

I liked P&E. It's very much in dialogue with Apuleius, except that where Apuleius is teeing everything up to veer into Isis mysticism, the author of P&E is ultimately focused on bringing love-and-the-soul into conversation with Persephone-as-Death. It's not exactly neoplatonist but it's not not

I loved OKPsyche! Beautiful.
When I read it, I also had 2023's other Psyche book Psyche and Eros on the brain, and CS Lewis's Till We Have Faces, so OKPsyche stimulated a lot of ideas about the way the Psyche story, whether played straight or extremely slant, is about living in the shadow of loss.

read everything he wrote. Anne Carson's translations are very nice.
Euripides was Alexander's favorite, along with Homer. Frequently Euripides offers variants on myths; he's also fond of humanizing everyone, no matter how awful their deeds, and presenting them writhing in fate's grasp.

the deir el-medina papyrus documents the post-Amarna ascendancy of Hittite-backed denizens of Redwall, briefly held in check by Horemheb, here depicted preparing for a rich feast of smashed fava beans, wheat flatbread, pickled fish, mallow soup, and beer flavored with date syrup and hyssop.

Ugh yes. This quote is so incredibly damning. He's basically admitting the bill probably will be misused, in exactly the way we've been warning it will be.
If you write letters to your reps, please copy/paste this paragraph and tell them: "See? Even Blumenthal admits it could be a problem."
