E.V.O. is one of my favorite games for all its issues so learning that it's actually a kind of remake/sequel to an even weirder game on the PC-98 was incredible. still need to play 46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinkaron

It really does irritate me just how much the non-american side of PC gaming is treated. There was such a thriving scene in PC gaming in the Europe during the late 80s to early 90s, and all of it just gets ignored completely

Really fascinating article, and a great primer for the subject! I’d not really known a lot about Japanese computer games, and knew only a little more about the hardware they ran on. You’ve given me a new rabbit hole to dive into. 🙂

love this article, also it reminds me of how one of my favorite '80s/'90s japanese video gamey things is Ancient Lore Carvings in this kind of style, which maybe started with nausicaa? and then like, la-mulana and various zeldos kept running with
