Yeah, the idea is that the author's link anchor to the text from an external doc via locs (start, end, uri), and the authors link file is just one of whoever else writes one, similar to what hypothes.is eventually did.

Yeah, I don't think Nelson's vision was possible or in many ways desirable. It's incredibly instructive and insightful, but not as a workable model.

And outside the document! I think that was the fundamental mistake of the web, and why a lot of the stuff that could be imagined as collaborative infrastructure fell to Google

A great example of this is where Google deems Charlie on LOST a drug *dealer* because he is a drug *addict*. That shows a bias that is going to play out in the world in other ways, but in the contained reality of the show we can say it's false and biased.

Yes, exactly! Questions about TV shows have a base reality that requires some nuance but also have an examinable base reality and tons of source data. Seeing how AI mucks it (and where it doesn't) is fascinating. And searches about TV are very common!

Continuing with my weird fascination of how AI intersects with searches about TV shows, this AI summary describes an episode that is literally one where Ncuti stands on a landmine the whole show as an episode that doesn't feature him.

Good and evil exist, but an *awful* lot of really bad things in society happen because people believe their jobs should be easier, or that status building and maintenance should be lower effort.

Oh right. Yeah, the momentum in this thing is media driven. They miss their leaks and their celebrity status from the Trump admin, in fact they feel that leaks and insider dirt are something they are entitled to, and they are ready to punish anyone who doesn't get on board here.

We took world-changing action based on a media frenzy about a largely made up concern relentlessly promoted by every news agency except McClatchy and Knight-Ridder, who were the ones who called people who would actually know instead of taking random leaks.

They don't want Biden in, as a person who used to specialize in research on this they want to prep a narrative for the fall of a technically illegitimate election. It's not a move to stop it, it's a move to delegitimize.

It's fascinating, because if you'd have asked me 15 to 20 years ago, I'd have said with TiVO, cable, and federated search on tech like Xboxes, Rokus, etc we'd quickly approach where that tech would answer these questions, but its all become a mess.

There are serious, non-trivial risks to threading the needle this year. Are they showstoppers? Usually no, but in a year where everything legal is up for grabs the fact reporters are not keeping these issues front and center is incredibly irresponsible.
