NEW: Chief Justice John Roberts refuses to meet with Senate Democrats about Alito's ethics issues, citing "separation of powers concerns and the importance of preserving judicial independence." s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...
But, the fact that Alito was signaling support for the coup is ALSO a separation of powers issue? Not to mention a judicial independence one? And Thomas's corruption shit is also a judicial independence issue?
(I know he doesn't actually believe what he's saying & pointing out hypocrisy is useless
Don't Supreme Court justices testify before Congress on at least an annual basis regarding funding? They should have to testify before Congress just like Executive Branch officials, especially when their budget and size and effective existence are dependent on Congress.
This is bs. Really, can’t they send the Sargent at Arms or the Capital Police to force him to attend? They have a Constitutional right to conduct oversight.
He's saying justices can do whatever they want. It's up to them to decide whether they should recuse. Alito can plaster Stop the Steal signs all over his house and take millions of dollars' worth of bribes. But it all boils down to whether HE thinks he should recuse himself. Baloney!
It'll never happen, but Congress should cut their budget to zero. Lets Roberts get a taste of how separate and independent things are.
I'm sure they'll raise the funds. Just have Clarence Thomas call in a few favors.
"[O]nly on rare occasions in our Nation's history has a sitting Chief Justice met with legislators ...." Hmmm. I feel like there might be another "rare occasion in our Nation's history" staring me in the face right now, but I can't seem to put my finger on it ... Maybe it has to do with some flags?
Is there a separation of powers red line at all?
Let's say, Alito arrives at the next public session on a Jan 6th issue and plants his upside down flag behind him. Thomas is flown in on a gifted Crow jet sporting gold dollar signs on his cheeks? Not enough?
