The thing that's telling and exasperating about the centrist "Biden must drop out" calls is that... this was their guy! They act like the left insisted on him! But Biden was the guy they were saying Democrats should instead rally around when it looked like we might pick Bernie!

I think Price’s own assessment is right: when he’s in WG, it’s one of the strongest performances of his career, and if Michael Reeves had handled directing differently, it could have been even better. There’s a lot I appreciate about WG, but WD&DB introduced me to the far more amazing Witchhammer.

The more I sit with this, the more I find myself thinking about the possible universes where Brian Wilson fully breaks away from The Beach Boys much earlier than he did in ours and has the confidence to embark on a path that looks something like Scott Walker’s solo career.

Given an infinite number of universes, the ones in which Brian Wilson gets out from under his father’s thumb even earlier and his creative genius blossoms even more strongly than it did in our universe are perhaps more tantalizing to me than the ones where Elvis escapes Colonel Parker.

This is a fair point, but I’d counter that if the Beatles hadn’t broken up when they did they might well have ended up having just as many progressively “worse” albums as the post-Brian Beach Boys did.

Bill McKibben has this notion Joe Biden might realize he’s lost his fastball & release his delegates before the convention in August so they can rally behind someone like Gretchen Witmer. I suppose it’s slightly more plausible than my fantasy that Biden fakes his own death & hides out in Ireland.

For sure, the British classics are the core of this film, but the sections on folk horror in other parts of the world are filled with such treasures. Although I will die on the hill that Witchfinder General is an extremely dark historical drama rather than horror, except maybe psychological horror.
