I was around (albeit quite young) in ´68, and besides the notion of the sitting President resigning, it was a vastly different time, with vastly different actors and circumstances. Humphrey´s mistake, it seems to me, was still supporting the Vietnam.

I have a persona on Facebook to keep up (poorly) with photos of my nieces´ and nephews´ kids. I´ll occasionally get a ¨friend suggestion¨ for my late father, who died four years ago. It does not incline me to spend any time on the site.

I once again think people are missing forest for the trees, the fact that AIPAC has had to try and make bids against Democrats at all, and that AIPAC spends openly in races now in of itself, is indicative of the waning, not growing, influence of the lobby.

A friend of mine, a Kiwi, was teaching at the U of C medical school about 10 years back when all the stories of CTE were coming into view. He tried to get a group of academics together to lobby the school to drop football, as it was the ethical thing to do.
Needless to say, it went nowhere.

My wife´s family is of Italian descent. When we get together for the holidays, they often make gnocchi. I tried, once, to add the indents to the cut lengths, and my SIL rather brusquely shouldered me away from the table, scooped up my efforts for reworking, and called me ¨paddle paws." 😔

We got out of debt, and are doing just fine now, but those predatory bastards at Capital One can rot in hell.

Many years ago, my wife and I ran up some bad credit card debt when there was a major recession in the building trades (which we were both in). We arranged through a legit consolidation non-profit payment plans with 3 cc companies - Target, Discover, and Capital One. Target charged 0% on the ...

I agree that a $100 fine is a lot more onerous to a poor person than to a wealthy one. That´s why we should index traffic fines to wealth.

I´ve heard that to some people, cilantro tastes like soap - though that apparently can be overcome with exposure. So maybe you do lack the genes. Though I suspect that if you had a really good tabouleh made with freshly picked garden parsley, you´d see the light ;-)

In the US, coriander usually refers to the seed, and cilantro to the leaf of the same plant. The English call what we call cilantro, coriander, and what we call coriander, coriander seed.

Every value Democrats hold dear points straight toward freedom of movement. I have written this as an #OpenBordersDemocrat. If you agree, consider sharing and endorsing likewise. Immigrants will never be free until they have faithful friends and defenders in the Democratic Party.

Well, I´m sure Seinfeld wasn´t thinking of *this*, but Cosell did a very principled - manly?- thing when he did this on the air in response to US outrage over Smith and Carlos raising their fists during the national anthem at the 68 Olympics.

Cops torture a guy into falsely confessing to the murder of his father. The son tries to kill himself. The father is found alive and well, and the cops don’t bother to tell the poor guy. Fuck cops.

I was with my son and his GF when we heard a Catbird mewing. I told them to remember that sound, bc Catbirds are more often heard than seen. The moment I got done imparting my wisdom, the Catbird flew to an branch right in front of us and sang like a coked-up Mockingbird for 5 minutes

The Gray Lady is old enough that we can give them agency. I used to believe if we told them what they were doing wrong, they would say, oh wow, I hadn't realized this. Let me fix it.
I assume now that they cover politics the way they do, because that is what they intend.

I´m calm, thanks. I merely wanted to point out that it´s an ethnic slur. Personally, if I found out that I was unknowingly using an ethnic slur, I would stop using it, and wouldn´t expend any energy trying to minimize the ethnic slur. But YMMV.
