elections have consequences, and house republicans made killing this a priority. the media did not explain this to voters and instead told them 2022 was about reversing a defunding of the cops that never occurred and making joe biden turn the "gas prices" dial back down.
Someone on here blocked me for pointing out that it was House GOP budget demands that killed an existing COVID vax program and that Biden's proposed budget included a replacement program.
People's priors on which politicians are responsible for what are entirely broken. It's 99% GOP.
Dems talked up subsidies for rural broadband for years, actually passed it when they had a trifecta, then watched the voters who benefited from it vote overwhelmingly for Republicans in 2022, who then cancelled the program. Then voters blame Dems/Biden for losing their cheap internet.
Or how this family lost approximately $2500 in expanded child tax credit a month because they (and CNN) just wanted to bitch about Biden causing higher milk prices.
About the only thing Trump did right is put his stupid signature on those checks. Biden should have found a way to get his name on the cable bills of these people. "Discount paid by Joe Bidens Affordable Connectivity Program"
I loathe the double standard Repubs get away. They perpetually take a sledgehammer to a program that helps people and they're like "...and that's why big government isn't the answer!"
The "pols are all the same" folks on Bksy, as well as the few stories I saw that featured actual people, would lament that this inexpensive internet was going away but a) never explain how it came about and b) only blame "Congress" or "DC" for it going away.
No chance this comes back for 10+ years.
I think there's a really good book to be written eventually about how quickly we whipsawed from spontaneous BLM protests popping up in small town Alabama to a midterm based almost entirely around crime panic
That program also made it so they couldn’t shut off your internet and lemme tell you how much easier that made my life back when I still had the foolish idea that I could get hired to do a job.
#CutOffNoseToSpiteFace I'm furious with Democrats for not making Republicans fund ways to help people. I'll show them my anger in November by sitting out this election, that will teach those lame Democrats a lesson. Yeah. [sarcasm]
I know an older couple, he had a stroke and she cares for him. They're on SSI. They had Internet but can no longer afford it because it went from $40/month to over $100 when this program ended recently.
