No longer wondering how it happened in Germany

In Europe many wolves first reestablished themselves in military training areas slash bombing ranges, so I'm guessing people freak them out much more than the occasional loud bang.

They essentially demand all of society's ills to be fixed in 3.5 years, including many areas where the president has zero control over. As for the Gaza crowd... I don't remember any of this outrage about Yemen, where US bombs sold to the Saudis killed *a lot* more people, so I have to ask, why now?

The most frustrating part of all this is that Biden HAS gone left and has presided over the most progressive policies I've seen in decades. And instead of thinking, gee, imagine what we can do with 4 more years of this he's reduced to "centrist" and they're dragging up shit he said/did 40 years ago!

And he's been incredibly progressive! While having to deal with shits like Manchin and Sinema. It's no wonder Bernie and AOC stand behind him. They realize where this push is coming from. bsky.app/profile/dutc...

We had 4 (well, 3.5) years of professionalism in the White House and got shit done. And nobody had to worry every morning whether or not we'd nuked a hurricane or started a war with Iran during the night. Yes, Biden is old and has been in politics forever. It's his strong point!

It doesn't seem to occur to anyone constantly banging the drum about how Democrats are doomed that they are actually the ones making that happen. The more you moan about how bad Democrats are, the more people will pick up on it and act on that belief. We all watched this exact thing happen in 2016.

A lot of them turn out to be Libertarians in disguise. Had this discussion about a month ago when they were all bitching about the increase in fast food prices. Got a lot of "fuck them employees and their higher wages" vibes from that crowd, lol. But mah burger prices!

Look at it as spreading the load. Say a $1/hr wage increase in the fast food sector causes burgers to be 25cts more expensive. Everyone pays the 25cts but the fast food worker still has a 75cts profit. It's obviously more complicated than that but in a nut shell, it reduces income inequality.

It's sad that US politics is all about optics and not about the issues, in no small part thanks to our fucking horse race media coverage that has left like 70% of Americans thinking the economy is in the toilet somehow. This "Biden is old" bs is just the final nail in their coffin for me. Gah.

Oh for crying out loud. Yeah, let's do the candidate again who lost to Trump in 2016 and who was (and is) intensely hated by large swaths of the population, and who is as old now as Biden was in 2020, that'll do it!

This is just an observation but the reader comments on the last NYT editorial being all in agreement makes me think they've lost a non-negligible part of their subscribers already. There used to be quite a bit of diversity of opinions in the comment section. I rarely see that anymore.

Oh yes, I'm sure. Hindsight is 20/20, yada yada. It's just that I see this same dynamic with sports fans whose teams have a tendency to either lose or not win big. Instead of going all in, you get a lot of hemming and hawing about coaches/players etc so they're not seen as naive when the team loses.
