Doesn't work because you need a VP in office to prevent the GOP from stealing the election and to break ties in the Senate through the end of the term (and you cant confirm a replacement VP in the House) bsky.app/profile/skyd...

She could nominate and the Senate could approve, but we know the Rs would prevent there ever being a vote for that very reason (the leading “t” was elided).

Idk I think its easy to say "running for President and being President are both full time jobs and I'm only up for one of them" as a way of explanation that sounds ok bsky.app/profile/ween...

But President Harris can use her presidential immunity to arrest two dozen or so Republican members of the House on charges of treason so that Vice President AOC can get confirmed

Yeah, I'm coming around on that point. Also no VP puts Mike Johnson next in the line of succession, so even if you could be POTUS and VP simultaneously, this would be risky.

Yup. Democrats could nominate Jesus/Buddha/Moses or whomever to be Harris' VP choice and the house GOP would refuse to seat them. This would mean from Biden stepping down to January 20th next year, anything happens to Harris, Mike Johnson becomes president.

But a Pres. Harris could & would nominate a VP, which needs only Senate approval. We'd get that because we have a Senate majority, no? Or am I wrong?

And even if it were plausible, it would suck from a political perspective. You're handing off the middle eastern hot potato to Harris, whose decisions will inevitably give Trump dirt to sling. Plus any other crisis that's been brewing for years will be pinned on to her 4-month term.

I was leaning this way for the cleanest way to deal with the ballots, money and convention but 5 months of on the road campaigning with Mike Johnson as the President in waiting seems very dangerous. Not to be too dark.

Ok, Biden dies or resigns, Harris becomes POTUS and, citing extreme danger to the Republic, cancels the election. Done.
