Amen to all this. And there’s a humility to this too because even as smart as I think I am, there are so many corners to injustice that I’m unaware of and learn constantly. Things I don’t have an informed, educated opinion on. Really knocks the self-righteousness out of me.

My son would be that kid today. We had no idea what was going on with his behavior five years ago. And now we pay out the nose to live in a shoebox apartment because our district has great programs and resources for public schools.

I agree but to add: I see few people outside of the self proclaimed scorekeepers in journalism making the argument for an open primary. Most of what I'm reading from persons I trust are willing to roll with Harris. I want Biden to stay in but I definitely don't want an open convention if he doesn't.

Amen. The only correct take right now is: I (person or pundit) don't know what will happen and — whatever does — we don't know if it'll work. Everyone can have an opinion and that's fine. Treating it like Gospel is deeply problematic. We're in Here Be Dragons territory.

Don't know what the benchmark is for a coalition — and French politics are night/day compared to ours — but I have to imagine the Left can't form a government w/o Macron defections. So this is the ideal moment for centrists to put their money where their mouth is and COMPROMISE to defeat fascism.

I'm late to this but she's a world class hack who got lucky that she worked on a campaign of one of the biggest public assholes in politics (Weiner) and wrote about it. I did enjoy her 2016 coverage but, like many, she traded scruples for access during the Trump era and hasn't really looked back.

Feel like that comes back to institutionalism, which is a bedrock liberal principle and frequently clashes with progressive ideals. Problem is, there is never a question of “Is the institution necessary or good or can it be reformed?” My God, the arguments I used to have on FB about SCOTUS.

I think part of the reason why people are flocking to Chappelle Roan beyond her music being incredible is she gives people permission to dress up and have absolutely no chill, be incredibly queer in public, as well as be an example of how an "overnight success" can take a decade to happen

I've been two feet in the Biden Should Stay In Camp but if he's going to do this, he really can't wait. I understand the rationale of trying again in a public forum but time is of the essence and there would be a lot to do in order to launch a Harris campaign.

I started counting back in the fall of 2022 but haven’t used it in over a year. I lost a lot, put a little back on, lost it and it just kinda is what it is. I adhere to the diet 9x out of 10 and I’m snacking smarter.

Loved this and as a pastor I relate so much. A colleague once wrote in the NYT that she believes in eternal life because the idea of death petrifies her. Sums up my feelings entirely. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve leaned into an understanding that faith isn’t rational but religion shouldn’t be fanatic.

Its origins actually lay with POC activists who wanted to call white people out for social media posts with no action. Least that’s where I first saw it used but that was a long time ago. There’s very little the right comes up with that’s uniquely theirs. It’s a reactionary movement.
