Every big media organization was so crossed-up by Trump winning in 2016 that they have been behaving and hiring as if Long Island-Coded Suburbo-Racist Sociopathy was on an unstoppable ascent worldwide, and interpreting everything backwards from there. It turns out most people actually hate it!

Don't know what the benchmark is for a coalition — and French politics are night/day compared to ours — but I have to imagine the Left can't form a government w/o Macron defections. So this is the ideal moment for centrists to put their money where their mouth is and COMPROMISE to defeat fascism.

I'm late to this but she's a world class hack who got lucky that she worked on a campaign of one of the biggest public assholes in politics (Weiner) and wrote about it. I did enjoy her 2016 coverage but, like many, she traded scruples for access during the Trump era and hasn't really looked back.

Feel like that comes back to institutionalism, which is a bedrock liberal principle and frequently clashes with progressive ideals. Problem is, there is never a question of “Is the institution necessary or good or can it be reformed?” My God, the arguments I used to have on FB about SCOTUS.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

And even if it were plausible, it would suck from a political perspective. You're handing off the middle eastern hot potato to Harris, whose decisions will inevitably give Trump dirt to sling. Plus any other crisis that's been brewing for years will be pinned on to her 4-month term.

I think part of the reason why people are flocking to Chappelle Roan beyond her music being incredible is she gives people permission to dress up and have absolutely no chill, be incredibly queer in public, as well as be an example of how an "overnight success" can take a decade to happen

Whenever someone proposes a nominally lefty idea like "universal childcare," the scorekeepers and respectability refs immediately join the conservatives to cry WELL HOW WILL YOU PAY FOR IT? And yet, there's very little consideration from them for the decades of damage conservative policy causes.

I've been two feet in the Biden Should Stay In Camp but if he's going to do this, he really can't wait. I understand the rationale of trying again in a public forum but time is of the essence and there would be a lot to do in order to launch a Harris campaign.

I started counting back in the fall of 2022 but haven’t used it in over a year. I lost a lot, put a little back on, lost it and it just kinda is what it is. I adhere to the diet 9x out of 10 and I’m snacking smarter.

So many of these people spent YEARS telling people that things that political organizers said would happen would not happen due to 'precedent', norms, collegiality, etc and they were fucking wrong 100%.

Loved this and as a pastor I relate so much. A colleague once wrote in the NYT that she believes in eternal life because the idea of death petrifies her. Sums up my feelings entirely. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve leaned into an understanding that faith isn’t rational but religion shouldn’t be fanatic.

Idk how old you are so I don’t wanna patronize but as someone who was in HS during 9/11: I remember when they started doing GBA during the 7th. It sucked then, it sucks now and cuz the bulk of baseball’s fan base is old white men, it’s not likely to stop anytime soon.

I've transcribed the shocking exchange.

It's been said a bunch of times but I want to say it, too: what's been so bracing about these Lauren Windsor/Rolling Stone stories is not that they reveal Alitos as grand villains but as absolute off-the-rack nightmare suburban shitheads. 0 wins above replacement between the two of them.

Its origins actually lay with POC activists who wanted to call white people out for social media posts with no action. Least that’s where I first saw it used but that was a long time ago. There’s very little the right comes up with that’s uniquely theirs. It’s a reactionary movement.

Just like privilege and gaslighting and virtue signaling and other words that were started by minority groups and got co-opted by one side in bad faith and by the other for liberals/lefties/moderates to use social media as therapy. Folks seriously need to breathe fresh air.

I do think there is a residual phobia here of how HRC tried to take advantage of his sexist comments instead of focusing on the issues. But that was right years ago and before Trump had an unpopular presidency.

This is a good reminder of what @ositanwanevu.bsky.social is consistently saying: the only people willing to meaningfully hold Trump accountable are everyday folks like voters and jurors. Not the sacred media. Not party elites. Not hallowed institutions.
