A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

yeah as others have said, the Abbots and Desantis' of the nation have similar goals and aspirations but don't have the juice. they just come across as tremendous dweebs when they're outside their home arenas

This type of thing is happening across state and local government too. The city I work for i doing a whole RTO thing for most positions, and most of state of california is going through the same. Obviously not a great way to stay competitive when salaries are lower than private

I mean, national parks in Europe are mostly like "we ringfenced this bit, it was pretty. You can walk for an hour or so in that direction and then walk back" and national parks in America are more like "this is a region the size of Belgium. It's neat, but don't get lost. We can't find you if you do"
