My Mom was alive back in summer of 1992, when the news of the Bosnian camps came out. Mom's response was: I don't to know all the details to know how bad it is. Did I heed this a few years later, when I started reading about Bosnia/Rwanda/genocide in general? No, I did not, took me a few years.

This reminds me of reading the preface to Shake Hands with the Devil and deciding that although it was clearly an important and necessary book, it wasn’t something I could handle.

Such a good lesson. I was involved in 4 enquiries in my working life that looked at evidence of horrific things (Shoah, coal mine diseases, hospital deaths, and the mistreatment of adults with learning difficulties). I have seen horror and know what man is capable of. I don’t need to see more.
