Messed up autonomic nervous systems too. Like with POTS. Things were okay where I was last night, but when fight or flight gets triggered really hard it can take hours to resolve, some people longer.

Even those who are against fireworks mostly mention animals and rarely vets with ptsd. No other people or disabilities. When it comes to fireworks people are somehow even worse than normal at acknowledging disabilities beyond what they think they are familiar with. And at admitting harm.

Got a bit off track. But basically I’m being made to feel like I’m the problem for not being grateful enough as opposed to there being something actually wrong. Same with loneliness. I bear some responsibility there, but there are structural and societal reasons chronically ill people are isolated.

To give a positive example: yesterday I was on top of Whiteface Mountain because you can drive there (thanks, disabled President FDR!). A ranger noticed me carefully looking at flowers, and made sure to show me a rare flower! If you have things to be grateful for they build.

I am finding as much joy as anyone I have ever met looking at cool nature stuff and light hitting my glass, all of that. And my family. But I can’t feel grateful for the community I was unable to keep when I got ill. Or hobbies I can’t have anymore. Or jobs I can’t work. Or security I don’t have.

People who feel more gratitude live longer, study says. Look, I don’t know how much nuance is in the actual study. But I’m pretty annoyed that the reporting is implying your are harming yourself for not feeling gratitude independent of context. Some people have more to be grateful for.

My neighbors with the “trespassers will be shot” sign and who used to have what I would call “Trump lite” and 2A flags are selling American flag themed wooden outdoor decorations. Just actual Old Glory themed, no directly fascy stuff. I’m choosing to take this as a good sign.

The thing is, the disabled are a population of enraged people. The disabled are carrying a deep rage because not only is ableism embedded in nearly everything in our world, but people without our vulnerabilities are hostile to making anything better for us. Also society does not accept our rage.

I’m non-binary and was already given a single syllable nature name, albeit a female coded one. But it’s mine and I’m keeping it. But I absolutely did a gender neutral nature name for my kid. It’s like the only way to name I can think of. Of course she is cis.

That happens to me on days when the brain fog is bad and words are hard. But it does suck to feel even more isolated on those days when I could post a reaction gif or reply to someone’s request for cute dog pics. I don’t post. But I think it’s fine to say that sucks for us.

Reading the other responses it is clear that many people don’t know that even though a human knows what is going on in their thinking part of their brain, that doesn’t mean they can make their nervous system not freak out. That’s the problem. And it can be cumulative.

One of my meds messes with my memory in a losing todo list items kind of way. I really wanted to see Monkey Man in the theater, it was a priority, but my weeks were already over booked and I couldn’t make it for a couple weeks. And then I just, forgot it existed until I saw it mentioned today. 😥

To make it more annoying, last year after the flood the health department was handing them out for free if you were more than 5 years out. I was right by a pop up clinic. I checked. Thought I was about 4 years out. Read the date wrong and was over 5. Sigh.

Got myself a nice, filthy puncture wound while working outside so I’m trying to get a tetanus booster. But I had to pick one of the two major pharmacy chains for coverage this year. And I remembered wrong. (I normally use a regional chain for meds). So I’m waiting at the second one. Absurd.

It's been my expressed view since 2016 that debating Trump is a category mistake. It treats him like a legitimate candidate whose words bear some relationship to his actual views and to empirical reality, and that's too much to concede to him. It gives away the game before the first pitch.
