It’s hard to generalize nationally from the shit show that is the New York Democratic Party. It’s been bad for years. From Cuomo’s antics to not doing any opposition research on Santos, to Hochul now.

As someone who considers themselves a swing voter between the left and the dem establishment, it really sucks that the people with good ideas and the people who are good at winning elections are often not the same.
Moderates aren't serious. There's two groups in politics today: a mishmash of social democrats, socialists, social liberals, and competent people who are willing to do what it takes... and reactionary nihilists.
It's ridiculous to ask for a middle ground between those.
It's true, although making this case would require that the left themselves be serious about governing, which is unfortunately often not the case either

i say this advisedly - there is a deep seated presumption across the state that this is not true
its so deep seated that convincing most people that hochul and her type are unserious idiots operating mostly in bad faith is and will be a generational project
Unfortunately it seems like there is a pro-cop subsidy for moderate Democrats. Here in Minneapolis Jacob Frey was re-elected and given more power despite overseeing a municipal disaster immediately prior. Newspaper and biz council types stand by him despite further examples of incompetence. It sucks
Moderates are uniquely inept and very stupid. I think Joe Manchin doubling child poverty because he thought parents were using the money on drugs (which just flat out wasn't true at all) should discredit moderatism for an entire generation.
