I haaaaaate that “just move” bullshit. I moved a lot when I was younger (Navy brat); I move now at the gov’s behest. You know what that flexibility cost? Any approximation of a friend/family support structure. That should *never* be a choice people have to make.

It's always a highlight of my day when I get to see a Least Bittern. These birds are uncommon here and hard to find in the wetlands. This male is making a short flight, flying low over the lily pads and knocking down the morning dew from a cattail.

Two more recent reports, one in Colorado and one in Minnesota - the cat data is at APHIS, but it’s complicated due to the lagging and inconsistent windows between “date collected” and “date detected”, as well as delays in posting after a detection.

Note that the CDC is hedging on the N1 part, since it’s not certain that there will be enough viral material to sequence - H5 detection can be done via PCR. One does slightly wonder what it would take to get a combined hemagglutin/neuraminidase PCR assay at this point.
