Would like to see an examination of unethical behavior/practices among researchers in the United States, since unethical research behavior is not found only in China. Question is how to conduct such a study ethically. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

We have a fun paper out in Nature Comms today on what makes music and language sound different

Blazingly obvious that they're different but what's interesting is how: not a hodgepodge of acoustic characteristics but spectral and temporal modulation specifically

A terrible new low from the House Select Subcommittee and the United States; after Dr. Fauci they target the next outspoken vaccine scientist Dr. Peter Hotez A blatant intimidation campaign aimed to show scientists that if they speak up, they will be targeted by the power of the government INSANE

Since the @nytimes.com op-ed pages are in the business of pushing misleading talking points from a well-known #lableak activist on the day of the Dr. Fauci hearing; one might need to question the impartiality of the newspaper.

Why the timing?
Where is the op-ed for a natural origin?

#unethical

One-on-one pitching (basically speed dating) was more difficult than standing up in front of a group. Someone on the panel is almost guaranteed to say something helpful. But the individual editor being courted may simply find an idea not interesting enough, and may not be able to explain why.

No one can do what Sharon Lerner does better than Sharon Lerner.

I had to stop reading to breathe in the middle. Sharon figured out a way to make mass spec contamination narratively exciting, as well as the scale of the secrets & contamination

+1 for the canon of #PFAS articles. A must-read:

She laid out all this amazing work, but then said her future direction was cloudy because of the non-support, and also because the science communication landscape via social media has become more tense -- something many have experienced, even if they were not harassed to the same degree.

You spotted the trend more than a decade ago: "dopamine has to do with addiction, whether to cupcakes or cocaine... But it is none of them, and we shouldn’t want it to be. Its complexity is what makes it great. It shows us what, with a single molecule, the brain can do." slate.com/technology/2...

“I think that this has the potential of really providing a lack of confidence in the system if this continues,” FDA's Pazdur said.
“I'm all for the public hearings,” Pazdur was quick to add. “I would like them to be what they were intended to be.” #healthpolicy
