In 2022, the polls in AZ had republicans winning statewide with the exception of Kelly eking out a win against Blake for senate. Now we’ve got a Dem governor, SoS, and AG, and Kelly decisively won. Something was missing in the 2022 polling here. I don’t want to bank on it for 2024, though.

All that said, having the traveling theater troupe as main characters in a post-apocalyptic world is A+++. That’s the same in the book and movie, and it was delightful to see it on the screen.

A little better than the book, tbh. I’ve read a couple by this author, and I thought Station 11 bugged me because it was clearly written pre-Covid and I was reading it post-Covid, but Glass Hotel bugged me in the same way. Great ideas, but left me unsatisfied!

This context- that the doctor has been visiting frequently since 2012, with **unknown** numbers of visits when the middle administration rescinded the open visitor log policy, was completely ignored when writing the headline

As the resident of a different desert city that relies somewhat on the same water source, believe me, it’s maddening. We banned front lawns and were at the head of the curve on reclaimed water. They’re doing *waves hands frantically* gigantic fountains and fake Venetian canals and lawns…

Our family “barf bowl” is the rectangular plastic bin you get at the hospital (eg ours had diapers in it when we had our kids, but they’re also used for sponge baths, etc., for any hospital visit). Keep just one in your life and make it the exclusive barf bowl. No one will ever cook with it.

I’m in a swing state that just got 1/5 of all registered voters to sign for codifying Roe in an initiative. The Trump signs of 2016 were gone in 2020 and are still gone. I’m highly suspicious of all the pundits looking at national polls and giving up on Biden.

I thought of punnet as in the square you learn about in middle school science—didn’t know there’s also a strawberry-related term! This is the one that bugged me. It’s how coroners describe shotgun wounds.

Fireworks weren’t legal in AZ when I was a kid; same with IL when I was in college. So my first July 4 on the east coast was eye-opening! AZ sounds more like a war zone now; I do think it makes a difference that you don’t have to drive to New Mexico to get them.

I was in northern Wisconsin a few weeks ago and passed a billboard that was just a photo of Epstein and Trump together, with the words “Please Remember.” Between that and the lack of Trump regalia on roads and vehicles (compared to my visits in earlier years), I think a switch flipped in WI.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

Yep. There were actually two simultaneous recalls, one because all-weather mats caused two deadly crashes, and one because of a “sticky” accelerator (which didn’t cause major crashes, just slowed the rebound of the pedal when you took your foot off).

I don’t think the “receipts” are the company’s, I read them as the PAC’s receipts (and therefore redundant), which of course means you’re correct that that it’s confusing and awkward. :)

Arizona was on the charter train 25 years ago and is also the home of BASIS. If you don’t get a suggestion in the comments I’d check profs in the ed schools at ASU, U of A or NAU, or someone in Gov. Katie Hobbes’s admin (fmr Sec of Ed). Not the current Sec of Ed—he’s bananas.

But seriously, it’s a dry heat! I’m in Tucson, which is cooler and cools off better because it’s not a concrete island, but my kids just got out of the pool and immediately had chattering teeth. That humidity (or lack of it) makes a gigantic difference!

I do swear by the Sunday Afternoon hats with extra neck coverage. I hate having to fully sunscreen just to walk my dog in the morning, but I live in AZ, so I wear my hat and a long sleeved shirt (really, any long sleeved shirt) basically year-round.

I don’t have a specific brand because they seem to all work > sunscreen. My one tip is to a get few and see what you like for your purpose—loose is comfiest and perfect if you’re just getting wet but not swimming, tight is necessary if you’re fully swimming or surfing (but sweaty for, say, hiking).

Last time I checked, my pharmacy had cards in the aisle and you would take one to the pharmacist to get the actual medicine. Which actually isn’t weird anymore because I have to ask for help just to unlock the nail polish.
