Let me try to put my cards on the table and lay out where I'm at re: Biden bowing out and the race in general.
#1: I am bewildered by how many different factions are hostile to Biden and how bad the polls have been. In my view, he's a pretty good president (certainly better than I expected).

Then you get "Finish the job" Trump. If that happens, and you have a real conscience, it will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Yes. The ageism and ableism I'm seeing from people who I thought knew better is appalling. *And* they don't recognize the violent, energetic form of dementia that seems to have taken Trump.

In a week I want every person who called Biden a drooling corpse to be apologizing. I want then to actually crawl on their bellies, weeping. This gets my blood fucking *boiling*, man. Don't shit-talk elders like this.

I think that Senators ox has been gored. It's so hard for me to believe how *foolish* he is, but I suppose I should not be surprised.

All these people, they're just itching to execute someone. Sooner or later, some of them are going to do it.

I'm not sure that they have. There were billionaires who hated him all along, of course, but beyond that we only know for certain about one person.

Biden to (Fox?) reporter in WI: "You have been wrong about everything so far. You were wrong about 2020. You were wrong about 2022. Remember the red wave?"
This was an unscripted response to a question, and in no way sounds or looks like a demented person.

People on this site in 1864: "Man, I know we're in the middle of a war with the Confederacy, but Lincoln's just too wild and incoherent in his speeches! McClellan seems like a solid hand at the wheel who'll bring some stability to this country."

And Biden has been, exactly, successful because he is also a great coalition builder.

I just blocked a leftist who objected when I pointed out that electing Trump would be blamed on the left. But it will be. The anti-Biden left will have cheered on a Democratic loss and that will not be forgotten.

There is, apparently, a significant Democratic faction for whom Biden is too liberal, and they've decided this is the time to put their views into action.

"PLAN?!" Pigkiller laughs incredulously. "There ain't no plan!"
I understand why you would want it, but the only remotely plausible replacement is Harris, part of the Biden administration and heir to the same policies. Most likely, though, you'd get Trump, worse in every way.

As opposed to what? Trump who has said that he wants Netanyahu to "finish the job."

The war is a result of decades of failed policy which Biden inherited. If Biden's response has been inconsistent, Trump is entirely consistent; he will wholeheartedly support Netanyahu.

i’ll tell you what, man, if biden manages to survive and win another term, i hope he and his aides remember that it was mostly the ancient centrists — not the progressives and not the younger dems — who came behind up him with the knives, and that he responds in kind.

This is just crazy. Like @stonekettle.bsky.social says, there's no way that replacing Biden, even with Harris, is likely to lead to anything but defeat.
And fergawdsakes, all the people who wouldn't support Obama because of his race, and Clinton because of her sex, won't support Harris, either.

Presidential immunity is mostly of value to a president who commits crimes. The rule of law cannot be restored by breaking the law. We are now operating in a space where there is no law and, assuming we win, we will have to put everything back together when we are done, a second reconstruction.
