Several friends from Middletown knew JD from HS (one also went to same Ivy uni) and said he was complete a**hole even then. His ego boost from the book didn't help. Cincy was great back then (grew up just north of there)!

I know several (PhD) musicologists who went this route. They seemed so much happier than those of us who had teaching positions (at least at all-undergrad state schools).

I may be your only follower who has been to Spencerville. 😀Back in the day, we drove through there when we visited family in Lima (my mom's from Lima). Lots of those histories in Ohio (I have some from the Circleville area, where my dad grew up). Happy reading!

H and I are trying to complete the 43-mile Ice Age Trail Millennium Challenge (we did this last year, as well). 9 days into the month we're at 15 miles. Pretty okay for a couple of mostly-out-of-shape retired academics!

Jason Aldean shot his "Try That In A Small Town" video at the site where a white lynch mob strung Henry Choate up at the Maury County Courthouse after dragging his body through the streets with a car in 1927. That's where Aldean chose to sing about murdering people who don't respect police.
