Feinstein was kinda load bearing with Kavanaugh because the initial allegation was sent to her, but the counterfactual there is probably allegations come out well before the hearings > an equivalent FedSoc ghoul is quietly swapped in (or, Republicans ignore them just like they did anyway)

I think maybe this is more true of pundits/strategists and less of electeds, who are more his peer group. Even old annoying centrist Senators like Cardin, King, Carper, and Shaheen AFAIK don't spend much time being anti-"woke." (Manchin being a special case.)

after the last midterm I'm not absolutely certain that a Biden midterm generates backlash, though the last time a two-term president had two good midterms was probably never. Given trends I have no hope for IA but TX... will remain forever the great purple whale idk maybe an IA special gets weird

not completely out of the question for Dems to gain a Senate seat or two in '26. Dems are defending two seats Biden won by <5 (GA, MI) and two more he won by <10 (MN, NH), R's are defending one seat Biden won by 9 (ME), one he lost by <5 (NC), and he lost TX and IA by <10...ok that's pretty remote.

I once had an hourlong talk with someone from AIPAC saying it wasn't their job to protest Trump appointing a virulent antisemite to his inner circle, because it might make it harder for them to lobby for Israel. AIPAC doesn't care about Jews, and criticism of them is not ipso facto antisemitic.
