and of course there are people who will moralize that decision by saying that folks don’t have a right to live comfortably through that route, but I just also don’t believe that folks born into situations they cannot control should be forced to suffer to ensure their morality remains pure
Yeah I’m generally not a fan of attacking individual choices made in the face of systemic problems (in general! This is not a pass for people who know better and have options to do bad things, ENTIRE TECH SECTOR)
I trust my brothers and sisters MORE than I trust any cop.
Since the majority of military personnel come from poor neighborhoods, WE KNOW what cops are, and if we were called to protect the public, we would put them down in a heartbeat if we see them breaking the law.
But where do you draw the line? When does making some questionable decisions to escape shitty situations move beyond the pale? By this logic, you could excuse almost anything. Not saying that's what you're doing, but at what point do you realize "that's a really shitty person"?
a somewhat cursed but true statement is that the us armed forces, especially in peacetime, are one of the greatest elevators to the middle class for the poor and minorities
Mother Teresa had that whole thing that suffering made you closer to her "god". She withheld meds from sick people. Now she is a saint instead of sociopath. Just horrific stuff. I'm a humanist now. Helped a lot of ppl but am sick now & hate asking for help.
