What you see as progress, I see as baby steps, hence the hyperbole. I am less believing national solutions will come from our fractured Federal government. Or that we’ll continue to invest. (I’m also in health care where both overspending and claiming early victory is our national strategy).

BTW, we’ve made progress vs. past events in CA - but still face aging dams and a lack of effective water runoff/capture or conservation. Given our choices, and global warming’s worsening cycles of drought and atmospheric rivers, we’ll need to spend far more than current levels.

In 2019, The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) estimated an $81 billion per year investment gap in water, which would grow to $434 billion by 2029 if left unaddressed. $40 billion covered 1/2 of one year. But sure I’m glib.

First they came for Flint MI… Then they came for Jackson MS… They try and try to breech New Orleans LA… but why tax the rich and deal with aging infrastructure? We’re fine. We’re in DC. Water’s everywhere. Panem today. Panem tomorrow. Panem forever.

I was more thinking about starvation across parts of Africa, as well as Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Gaza, and closer to me Haiti (all fueling global migration), but you’re preaching to the choir. As a child I grew up hearing about Biafra whenever I left food on my plate.

And here I remember so many “tube sock over pants” school plays and events when a simpler solution was at hand. Could have even used my little league football or baseball pants.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: I'm 48, and in my adult lifetime there has been one Republican who won the popular vote. But I will probably spend the rest of my life under the authority of a Supreme Court dominated by hard right conservatives. How is that democracy?

No more hand-wringing over what it means to treat the Court as political. No more running away from teaching Con Law after Bush v Gore bc it feels "uncomfortable." What we need are strong, solid ideas about what principled resistance to a toxic but powerful institution looks like.

She was new to me as were a few others, but many here I knew in the abstract or slightly. I loved learning something new about each. Something that isn’t really about their professional success, catalog, or artistry though it also clearly is.

So many mixed feelings on today’s rulings, but can’t say I’m unhappy to see the Sacklers lose. Hope the next opioid settlement comes quick and is larger. And that it requires this family to work in addiction treatment and homelessness for the rest of their lives.

A good list but will need Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia initiatives to follow if successful. And all because our right wing activist Supreme Court has abandoned, even voted against, “one person / one vote”.

And I love Tony’s but also Flour and Water, Delfina, Del Popolo (I had their truck for my 55th birthday party, google it, it is a sight), as well as Gialina and Cellarmaker, both walkable from my home.

Best #pizza people? I can name 4 here in #SanFrancisco that didn’t make this list, another two in LA. But you know what they say about pizza, right?
Having had bad pizza, the saying’s wrong.
Here’s a traveler’s list.

This has shown up in my feed in so many ways that I finally had to goggle her. I wasn’t surprised to see she hawks whimsy to the whimsiless, (a huge overlapping venn diagram with “more money than taste”, or “time”). Just what we need, another culture war against courtesy.

As a former college swimmer I say - now dive into water for the first time shorn. Try to capture what work felt like. Try. Then realize your senses betray you.

TY. I love my patients and teaching more than diagnosis now. I still enjoy thinking - but not paperwork, electronic charts, nor increasingly corporate rules/goals/cuts. I’ve been told I will “always have a teaching spot” but that’s inflexible/scheduled…and I’m becoming a dreamer again.

Those milk jugs bring back so many childhood memories. I don’t need them here in SF but they were a stable of NJ spring - March into April.
