Vacancy fees that target landlords who deliberately keep apartments empty is a key step Minneapolis can take to fight rent price fixing algorithms. I applaud actions by the FTC and DOJ to crack down on price fixing and encourage Attorney General Keith Ellison to join the ongoing lawsuits.

Minneapolis has a long history of stepping up and choosing welcome. That's why my office brought together government partners last week on how we can best support people seeking safety as they arrive in Minneapolis to reunite with loved ones and rebuild their lives.

A pay bump isn’t going to end MPD’s staffing crisis. We already tried raises and bonuses for MPD in 2022. The real problem is that MPD has a toxic culture. Only robust reform and real leadership that we haven’t seen from Mayor Frey can fix that.
