A horrifying 8 million people are not registered to vote. Pass this on: A General Election has been called for 4 July 2024. Register to vote by 11:59pm on 18 June 2024.
If you don't have one of the 'acceptable' photo IDs, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). The deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
And those people are likely the ones most likely to benefit from voting for the non-corporate parties. They should be the ones trying to reach those people.
I have registered. I have voted in local elections (except the last one as I was ill and could not go). The election office is just a 5 minute walk from my house so I prefer to go and vote in person, as I love walking and it is good exercise. May go for a nice dinner somewhere close after voting.
I remember on the day of the Brexit referendum, talking to the parent of a friend of my son's on our walk back from school. They didn't know what I was talking about. I was like 🤯
I wish I could but I can't! I fell at the UK resident hurdle. I was also excluded from the Brexit vote too because as a Briton living in France, I had nothing to lose from the outcome.
I was just reading that - if you live in the U.K. and are eligible to vote - you are legally obliged to be on the electoral register. It may well suit the Tories to have significant numbers of disenfranchised citizens unable to vote against them, but why has this ‘unlawfulness’ not been followed up?
