I am an extremely over-qualified high school chemistry teacher. (Photos captured by myself unless mentioned otherwise.)

I usually post threads in English but this is an exception- most people in my country can't visit Vienna (either they're poor or Austria won't let them in), and the internet is the only way for them to see this splendorous place. Yes I am a noble thoughtful person.😁

Meanwhile- I made a sequoia-tall thread on the dead bird site about Natural History Museum of Vienna. I shared I guess about more than 200 photos and I haven't completed it yet!🤣🤣🤣

Archaeologists identified a stone wall & earthwork extending over 2.7 km in the Dossone della Melia forest, Calabria, Italy. The wall, accompanied by a deep ditch, has been identified as part of the structures built by the Roman general Marcus Licinius Crassus

It feels like trying to hold a beam of light in your hand- you cannot. You just feel it when it is there. Simply.

Today we celebrate a milestone in science history, the presentation on July 1 1858 of 3 major unpublished evolution papers by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russell Wallace. These are worth your time to read. 🧪🌏

The only good thing about waiting is that you don't have to do anything about it- time flows anyway. Time flows without you having to do anything about it. The more I think the weirder my thoughts get.😖

No, not common Many Turks settled in Germany in 1960s as guest-workers (which turned out to be permanent later). In summer they visit their relatives in Turkey, and that's the time of the year when you hear unusual dialogues on the street.😁

In Austria everyone was talking to me in Turkish. Now I am riding on a bus in Ankara. Next to me sitting is a Turkish girl. Talking on the phone. In half Turkish half German, switching from one language to the other in between sentences.🙃🙃🙃

I made 1600 kms to Wien, scheduled Ephesus Museum in my travel plan mostly to see these sculptures of personified four virtues, and, guess what. I omitted to look for them when in Ephesus Museum and probably passed by them without noticing. I sometimes hate myself...

The Great Barrier Reef has experienced five mass bleaching events in the last decade – the most recent in March this year. It was the most severe and widespread mass bleaching event ever recorded there.

At Lizard Island, 97% of coral is dead.

Comfort me, followers. Tell me "Sapi, you're totally a normal human being. NHM Wien is abnormal." There's nothing wrong about taking 700 photos there in 5 hours, right?

Have you ever thought you were born in the wrong country? I didn't.Till I went inside that building today.💔 My eyes are filling even when writing this. This place can be the sanctuary of the hypothetical religion which I'd gladly believe in- in which curiosity is the only way to worship. NHM, Wien.

15 of 10 people in Wien are Turkish. Sometimes it's funny mostly it's annoying. Me: -Excuse me, do you sell Sacher cakes? (in English) She: -Hayır hayır (in Turkish) Me: -Türk müsünüz? (Are you Turkish?) She: -Hayır biraz anlıyor ("Just a little" -with a very bad accent-) Is my English that bad?😳

This is the 1st time I visited a museum filled by the early "subject hunter-gatherer" archaeologists & seeing stuff haphazardly put together (Archaic men &Bronze Age idols facing each other in Cyprus section was the most disturbing), the little info on the (only in German) labels felt a bit odd...

It is is a fascinating place and I spent some good five hours there today. With bursting into tears and talking to items from time to time. But something is eating me- there is something odd about this place. What's the difference between a museum and a storage house?
