Once upon a time, the ever-evolving graffiti on this reservoir near the psych unit was a cave-painting-record. I photographed much of it over months.
One day they painted it grey. The next day:
Not sure if it’s because I work in mental health, love art or hate all forms of oppression but…this physically hurts.
This must have been heartbreaking for everyone involved. From the current patients, to past patients, staff and even whoever got paid to paint over it.
I hate this…
There was some graffiti outside London Bridge for years. It may even still be there. I could never get a picture due to being on a train but it was - ‘ I spit on your 47 vegetables.’ It still loves with me today.
There was a goofy, very poorly graffitied dragon on a concrete wall here in Tulsa. It got painted over, similarly. More graffiti showed up. So they hired professional artists to put Tulsa themed art on the wall. May still be thumbing their noses at an art form, but fighting art with art isn’t AS bad
God damn, I always hate that so much. A bridge nearby had some gorgeous colorful work done, they paint it a grey that doesn't even match, and then some jackass poorly scrawls a "blank was here"
Dreadful.
I absolutely love this. I love graffiti and I had never thought of it like this. I spent an entire trip to Barcelona taking pictures of graffiti to use in an as yet to be determined art thing and I'm always frustrated when I see trains go by and I can't capture them as they go.
"Well it's unsightly vandalism"
Uhuh.. like a billboard bein placed onto one o my favorite spots to walk, the same billboard that required a ton o trees to fall n ground to be flattened, a creek to be filled with sand n a lot o plastic left behind.. mhmmm.. tell me about unsightly again old man...
Although I have seen your name several times by now I just read it in my head to the chorus of Seagulls Screaming by XTC and will now dig out my vinyl of The Big Express.
The evolution of the graffiti is fascinating, thank you for sharing it!
Yeah, the rich rule the world and, honestly, graffiti isn't harming anyone other than being an eyesore to rich people. lol
Plus, graffiti makes cities look way less grey and more artsy/colourful.
