I assume that TSA aren't properly trained, and instead rely primarily on the CT scanner's automated alerts for objects/bags to inspect - training materials highlight the fact that threats are auto-identified for the operator so I can see that as "ayup, that'll do"

they did catch an AK47 bayonet nearly instantly in my carry-on one time a few years back (whooooooops, they should’ve gone with the rest of my duty gear! 🐶💦) so we are at least protected from Knives On A Plane!!!
