My husband is on Day 8 of COVID isolation in his office, and in an effort to find him an entertaining activity, I slipped him one of my Golden Girls coloring books and some colored pencils. He’s been enraptured for like three hours.

I’m getting a very overdue knee surgery this month, and I’ve never had a procedure that left me with limited mobility for a while, so I’m wondering if anyone who has been through it has advice for staying as comfortable and not-bored as possible. Let me know!

Basically, I want a reverse hunger games where your only tools are the limbs you were born with. And even with a leader who happens to be disabled in such a way that hand-to-hand wouldn’t be fair, they get to choose a pre-approved proxy.

I held a woman’s hand while she burst into tears and walked me through a patch of grass and dirt where her ancestors were buried, the same spot these petrochemical companies want to build a new plant. The people who live there, mostly Black people of course, are being sacrificed to industry.

No one goes outside from 4-6PM because the smell is everywhere, like burning tires and mustard hanging thick in the air. I smelled it. I saw the flares from the burning stacks, and the storage containers sitting 300 feet back from someone’s backdoor.
