I hate that newspapers make it so easy to subscribe online but don't let you cancel online. So, I guess I am calling the NYT to cancel tomorrow. Despite my love for the recipes and reading the paper since I was a kid, I have to stop subsidizing their crap. transphobia, antivax, now antivoting!

I've never tried, but supposedly if you change your billing address to California the option will magically appear due to California's state law requiring the ability to cancel online.

You can get the recipes separately. I saw other people worried about losing Wordle but that's free.

Anti-voting in an election year is a watershed. Truly amazing that they willingly acted as a tool for voter suppression. We can find the recipes elsewhere.

The LA Times and Boston Globe, at least, also make it difficult to use your subscription. They seem unaware that few online users read their paper as a daily unit but rather read articles as they are linked on SM, Reddit, Metafilter, et'c et'c and they require password sign-in every time

Highly recommend The Guardian US edition. Always free but you can contribute to the trust.

I also had to call to cancel NYT. Maybe because i am in Australia. I just couldnt stand the pro Trump crap, sold as β€œboth sides” reporting. Wrong is wrong is wrong. There is no side to that.

My subscription was paid through PayPal so I just cut off from there. Problem solved.

I cancelled online quite late a few nights ago. When I cancelled in the past I always had to call. Might depend on the time you access the page?

It is pathetic that the only way I could cancel in 2016 was by calling their offices and that apparently in 2024 that's still true
