my take is that this is because the Squad is focused on goals and future plans while the centrist/elite Dem establishment is so high on its own supply it is now literally trying to eat its own tail

another au, today: "I am curious how peer reviewers might read and critique my work that is different from yours"
me: "they are subject-matter experts in your field! I'm not; I'm a professional editor. I'm helping you with structure, prose, clarity...."

me [over 2 weeks ago]: if you can give me some advance notice about when the articles will be ready for me to edit, that would be great
au [over 2 weeks ago]: sure; they're not ready yet and there's no rush anyhow!
au [yesterday]: article 1 is ready! when will you have time to edit it?
Y'ALL....

I’m just on my usual bullshit: coming back around to a musician I’ve known for a long time (and thought I Really Knew) and realizing I didn’t dig deep enough in the past

as lionized as Sly Stone is, I feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for being a commanding lead singer. the attention to rhythmic phrasing, the different timbres he constantly plays with for expressive purposes—just consummate musicianship

I think he told the truth the first time: cap backwards. he may have revised to to sideways to purposely foil your move to seize the coolness

have you looked at M-W's "Did you know?" section under the entry for both "jealousy" and "envy"? I find it helpful.

now I am craving liverwurst badly. I *think* decent liverwurst is obtainable near me, which is better than the pastrami situation in Durham and Chapel Hill.

this is how L Ron Hubbard wrote when he formulated Scientology jargon—constant nominalization of verbs and verbification of nouns. I feel like there’s something deeply fitting that these snakes in university admin are using language in similar ways

okay this is unhinged but hear me out: vodka, lemon juice, and pureed sauerkraut (plus the kraut brine so the whole thing doesn’t get too thick and paste-like). it would have some of the, ahem, digestive properties of the “poo driver”

I feel like the major obstacle in the Dem Party is their resistance to embracing a real leftist agenda because the leadership either can’t imagine how it would work (tho it would work), or actively doesn’t want to go left because they’re an entrenched elite class

wait why would an editor use the poop emoji? I could see **maybe** using it with an author I know really well and have worked with for YEARS. but even then I’d probably just write words. editorial work doesn’t seem like the venue for that particular emoji

yes, I use emojis in comments and queries to authors to convey tone and sometimes for congeniality. no, I'm not sorry about it.

my limited experience playing funk has been in the horn section as a trumpet player, and I feel that to really attain a deep hands-on familiarity with playing the genre/style I'd need to be playing in the rhythm section. at least that's my sense as primarily a listener!

theory about what makes this track so "funky": Sly sets a slow tempo and then subdivides the beat, constantly emphasizing the 16th notes with the figures played by the horns, drums, bass, etc.
This approach is all over Fresh. Musicians who actually *play* funk, does this theory hold any water?
