I don't have a great political memory ( so thank you for your work over the last few weeks ) but on reading "the other one" I had a sudden flashback to The Gang Of Four. From a quick check on Wikipedia, weren't they David Owen, Roy Jenkins, Shirley Williams, and "the other one"?

That’s right. The original founders of the SDP. But I can’t see the new Gang of Four being a patch on them.
