There are many ways I think about expertise and what it involves and what it brings to a situation, and I can get verbose and complex and attempt to pronounce Clausewitz's Fingerspitzengefühl and... and next time I hope I just remember this:

I infer from a quick search for "experience: 0" that that's the case...

Aw, it's a good show - although I'd rather not pay for it. And the lore is *amazing*. I mean you're completely right, and I'm not with the people who doff their caps to those with the "special blood" ... but also I can appreciate interest when there's centuries of pageantry and history...

Thank you Mary, especially when I should have looked that up myself - but somehow just flinging questions into the ether makes me feel less bad about hanging out on here when I should be striving to inbox zero. I owe you an answer, at some point, to something.

I've a feeling that trying to explain would only make the situation less clear, while also removing what little mystique and wonder the United Kingdom has left.

Voters technically vote for the MP not the party don't they? Do an MP changing party does *NOT* trigger a by-election?

With a personal and professional interest in wargaming future possibilities, and in system design... it is *fascinating* to read just how poorly thought through some of these systems are by the people who arguably need to have the best forethought in the entire country....

I don't have a great political memory ( so thank you for your work over the last few weeks ) but on reading "the other one" I had a sudden flashback to The Gang Of Four. From a quick check on Wikipedia, weren't they David Owen, Roy Jenkins, Shirley Williams, and "the other one"?

Yes - I think they all have value just as art, in and of itself; but also from a governmental point of view, the language and values they communicate, as well as putting Britain forward as somewhere that innovation and experimentation happens, is *incredibly* valuable. We'll see what Labour do...

To take this skeet over-seriously, I wonder if the new Government will see the genuine value of "soft power" again, to which the Arts is key.

Government should function effectively in the background like white goods. But for the past years it's been like your fridge-freezer noisily demanding attention every 5 mins, switching off for hours at a time, fiddling its definition of 'cold', and eating your food then blaming the washing machine.

Doesn't this just mean that Starmer is better at the game than either Sunak or Farage? ( also KJ I hope you sleep well when the time is right )

Oh that I didn't know, thank you both. I'm hoping there will be discussions about all the options, just because it's interesting to see from a system design perspective.

I enjoy trick taking games, & my understanding is they are enjoying a quiet Renaissance at the moment, but no one I play games with ever seems up for playing trick takers (with the happy exception of Joraku). How do I sell them to skeptical players who want boards & dice?

As with many other things ( phones with physical keyboards anyone? ) it's a shame that with so much technology to hand that we don't have more choice as users - e.g. "ant view" for soccer looks really interesting, and a way to see situations develop. Great summary of the issue here:
