Again, so helpful! I appreciate it. Here's to making it work without private cars.

Oh, I am fat, and much prefer trains, too. Much! I had originally planned on traveling and being on panels on the same day, so the train wasn't an option, but I added another night when I realized how tough this might be for me. I am booking the train! Thank you.

You are so helpful. When I got off the bus at South Station last year, I had not cell phone service, so couldn't order a Lyft. I found a taxi stand with one cab waiting, so that's what I did. Carrying my luggage up and downstairs to the T has me worried -- and I'm very rusty on taking the T.

I tried Greyhound last year, and it was a bit of a disaster. Driver got in an argument with a passenger who lit a joint. Pulled over on the highway. State police were called. So I'd been planning on Peter Pan.

Thanks! I'll check on the Lake Shore Limited timing. I called PVTA about bringing my luggage onboard. Customer service said it would be fine. I hope so. I've got a pretty big roller bag and a backpack. There's a really good Northampton to Springfield bus now, G73e, so that's what I'm taking.

PVTA bus! There is no decent train option from Northampton to Boston. (If I'm wrong about that, do tell!)

I am taking a PVTA train to a Peter Pan bus leaving from Springfield to South Station in Boston, and then Lyft or T to Quincy. And a hotel shuttle if it's the T. To get to #ReaderCon. I will be masking on transportation. I'm 63. It might be that I'm too old for this. But I'm looking forward to it.

People often ask me - "have you got that picture of Cary Grant in uniform with a puppy poking out of the pocket?" Yes, they do. They rush up to me in the streets, it's true. Well, yes. Yes, I do. And here it is.

This is a wonderful book — made me feel like I knew what if was like to live in the Dark Ages. A historical post-apocalypse novel.

I gotta say, FEDERAL SANDWICH is the best idea I've heard in a long time, and I'm ready to start doorknocking on this issue. Where's my clipboard and trusty stzck of pens?

Happy #primeweek! I just want to let y’all know that the Amazon shipping warehouse where my husband works is denying workers fans during a nationally recognized heat emergency and everything you order during time week places workers’ lives at risk.

I had one as a child! You make me wonder what happened to it. My beloved neighbor has a bigger, wilder one now and lets me come over there and write on it when the room isn't let out.

This is a heartening thread comparing likes, posts, and shares on Bluesky, Threads, and X. There's also information about a climate change scientists regular posting. Bluesky performed really well -- and the difference between positive responses and trolling is dramatic.

That "Like this" is a reference to how much I learn about coasts and waters from @hakaimagazine.com. You can read it or listen to it as a podcast. That sentence fragment above came the need to edit for word limits here.

From @hakaimagazine.com. Like this, led by persistent First Nations work :

"Last Tuesday ... the governments of 17 First Nations, Canada, and British Columbia signed an agreement to secure the future of the Great Bear Sea, also known as the Northern Shelf Bioregion."

I wanted to vote in 2004: naturalization took too long. I loved going with our kid to these when they were small. This is the first I've been to for a bit & I mostly lay on grass. There're good+bad things about this place but these people put in the work to come here & I love to see them celebrated.

Daphne Gottlieb is one of my favorite people, and a wonderful queer writer/performer who has rocked my world on many occasions. She recently had a costly, annoying battle over the rights to one of her books and she needs help recouping the costs. Please give/share!

The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: I'm 48, and in my adult lifetime there has been one Republican who won the popular vote. But I will probably spend the rest of my life under the authority of a Supreme Court dominated by hard right conservatives. How is that democracy?

I mean, it's both directly behind the sternum and slightly to the left, I think. I just verified with a link at the Cleveland Clinic that I put up in a comment on your first post about this.

I have said all along that I think Biden will win in November; I know he is the only choice to preserve this disgrace of a democracy. And still, this is terrible. It is shameful. That this is the best we have on both sides? The moderators refuse to moderate. It’s fucking ridiculous.

This debate is a prime example of how profoundly we are ill equipped to deal w/the rise of authoritarianism. Letting blatant lies fly. Doing nothing to follow up on lies & ignoring questions. Normal rules don't apply. We need to think--CLEARLY--about the best ways to clear the air & support truth.

Heard four minutes of the debate on NPR in the car and got so depressed that I was actually relieved when my baby started screaming in his car seat and I had to sing loudly to him and could no longer hear the radio.
