Far-right chud in NYT: "They went about the ordinary business of life - laboring, raising children, worshipping their creator - untroubled by futile expectations of change."
Medieval commoners: "I would rather the king and all kings were dead than that my son should be hurt on his little finger."

Anyhow, there is def a case to be made for people subbing scrolling for protest and action but it’s not like people never subbed reading the newspaper for those things?

Like, not only was early Twitter a crucial site for citizen journalists it was also a near constant source and megaphone for professional journalists. They were so addicted to it they made what happened on Twitter into news even tho the majority of their audience had no idea what it was or did.

Gonna go all the way out on a limb and say a journalist might not be the best person to critique posting as action.

I put some of the cherries in a salad with arugula, cashews, pickled red onions and feta and yes, omg, do this. Simple oil and vinegar dressing. You could also use cotija. Prob you could sub walnuts, tho it would be quite different.

I totally get the ideas behind each individual episode and often find them moving but where is the long arc? Not the “will the resto survive and get a star” arc which is nonsense but the emotional character arc?

I still like The Bear but this season feels like a collection of leftovers. It’s like they said, “Oh hey! They renewed! Let’s do all those weird little ideas we scrapped before when we were trying to make a coherent show.”

Last summer I had to get a scan at a cancer center (not for me that’s just where the scan equipment was) and no one was masked even tho there were signs EVERYWHERE saying to do so. I wrote to the company to complain and they promptly took that signage down.

Went to a clinic today for a routine medical thing and was once again amazed by the number of people who are happy to hang out and just freely breathe in all the air juice inside the germ emporium

My 10 and 12 y.o. nieces had a lot of scathing things to say about the golf score moment in the debate.

It’s past time to say: I have no power over who runs for President right now and also I lack the necessary information to have a reasonable opinion and may never have that information. All further discussion can do is stress me out, promote disinformation and alienate my friends. (My new mantra.)

Still way, way better than Texas. Shorter run of triple digit heat. Cool nights. Almost no humidity so it’s very bearable in the shade. Hope the plants don’t fry tho. 😭 My neighbor has shielded some of his with parasols and I find it v touching.

The evidence of fire is very present, we’re in a heat wave today and I kept thinking about Trump’s plan to eliminate public lands. It all feels overwhelmingly beautiful and vulnerable.

Bars in Texas and Florida - states that had declared victory over the virus and reopened their businesses - are abruptly ordered closed down amid huge spikes in infections. The virus, which initially hit worst in the Northeast, is now surging across the South and West. There is still no vaccine.
