Heya! I need some recommendations, please!
Your favorite independent podcast that is one or more of these:
- TTRPG Actual Play
- TTRPG Discussion/interview
- Magic/TCG related
- Audio Drama
- General Nerd Shit (affectionate)
Smaller, newer shows, especially!
I’ve started listening to Ain’t Slayed Nobody’s The Between AP and enjoyed it enough that I’m going back through their older episodes. As a Brindlefan, the main one I listen to is an audio version of Jason Cordova’s YouTube APs.
Okay, this is not a new one, but Find the Path is very fun. It is on the bigger side for a Pathfinder podcast, but nothing like a Dimension 20 or Critical Role mega-cast.
TTRPG Discussion: Yes Indie'd. Indie creator interviews.
MtG: The Vorthos Cast. Show covering the stories of Magic.
Audio Drama: Find Us Alive. SCP drama about a facility that gets shunted into a void. Lots of humor and heart.
General: World Building for Masochists. Different topic each week.
Worlds Beyond Number: an unsurprisingly fantastic (given it's cast) actual play with some of the best sound design
Talk of the Table: a great interview/chat show with industry folks
Three Black Halflings: a mix between actual-play arcs and interviews
Eldritch Lorecast: newsy panel talk show
I am here to rep Transplanar and their fantastic stuff. All-trans, POC-led anti-colonialist and anti-orientalist drama actual plays. Their first arc "The Second Stranger" was D&D but the second arc "Chaos Protocol" is a variety of systems with a contiguous cast and story. transplanarrpg.com
For discussion/interview/general nerd shit my favorite far and away is "Ken and Robin Talk About Stuff". Longtime game writers Kenneth Hite and Robin D. Laws do short segments about gaming, food, alternate history, writing, and other such things.
If you're looking for audio drama you might like Tales from the Aletheian Society. It's a sort of comedy / horror with a kind of Call of Cthulhu vibe. www.hunterhoose.co.uk
TTRPG news would probably be Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk.
There's few podcasts that have been running as long covering the news for RPG professionals as widely.
First, I'm not a huge AP or Audio Drama person. But, here goes:
- Tales From Hyperborea
- The Adventuring Party
- sorry
- sorry
- Genreless or Nerd's RPG Variety Cast.
I'd recommend @wairpodcast.bsky.social which has a mix of interviews and shorter actual plays. Also @happyjacksrpg.bsky.social who also do both, though they've been around so long I'd be surprised if you haven't heard of them before!
If self plugs are okay, then @stabilityor.bsky.social! We're a horror RPG podcast playing a variety of indie games set throughout the history of a small town on an island off the coast of the Pacific Northwest
