Both the government and the media have done a good job of talking Cass up as a definitive, impartial overview of trans healthcare. It is neither. More young people will die as their very identity is demonised, and they're denied appropriate care. I DGAF that Cass's retirement has been spoiled.

Criminalizing sex work has nothing to do with protecting women. Banning adult content on crowdfunding and payment platforms has nothing to do with protecting children. The goal of these laws/policies is to remove one of the few sources of income for queer, disabled, and other marginalized folks.

Personally (and maybe I'm just being optimistic here) I think he's missed the boat. I feel like the attitude is shifting, albeit less quickly than I'd like. The death of Brianna Ghey shifted things. As tragic as it is that it always, always, ALWAYS takes a child's death to move the needle.

Speaking as a UK-ian, it seems to me because he is a politician as in someone seeking power, rather than someone with ideals of his own. Being a human rights lawyer would look good, so he did it. Appealing to minorities would get him votes, so he did it. Now he figures the wind blows transphobic.

I have absolutely no clue from the tenor of these replies if you're aggrieved at Starmer's stance or repudiating the claim that he's poor on trans rights. The linked article doesn't narrow that down much either seeing as it describes his record on it which I would call changeable at best.

I also wasn't aware of the Greens having an anti-trans problem (can't doomscroll through everything, I guess) but the party leadership has come out as strongly for trans rights, and it seems like they've been doing a pretty extensive attempt to root out the anti-trans sentiment, which helps a lot.

There's a lot to like about the LD stance, it's one of the more accepting stances out there currently. I think the only thing the Greens get a leg up on them with is a recognition of non-binary identities and plans to allow X markers on passports, etc.
