Both the government and the media have done a good job of talking Cass up as a definitive, impartial overview of trans healthcare.
It is neither.
More young people will die as their very identity is demonised, and they're denied appropriate care.
I DGAF that Cass's retirement has been spoiled.
dear yt people leave Black people alone re: the election. 98% of Black women voters vote Dem and in spite of recent poles that number is 90% for Black men. we aren't your problem it's your OWN demographic there's plenty of their posts and your own family to harangue.
Criminalizing sex work has nothing to do with protecting women.
Banning adult content on crowdfunding and payment platforms has nothing to do with protecting children.
The goal of these laws/policies is to remove one of the few sources of income for queer, disabled, and other marginalized folks.
The left shouldn’t choose celebrities period. Socialism is not a brand and that will never work out. Thought leaders should emerge through their theory and how they apply it
That’s it
People cannot seem to understand--or refuse to understand--that not all disability is static. With many conditions, some days are better than others. That doesn't negate the disability. It doesn't make the shitty days not count anymore.
A reminder to all trans folks who worry about presenting in public because of a fear of reprisal from an antipathic public (yes that does include me, why do you ask?)
If you are being prevented from being yourself, that violence is already being inflicted against you.
genuinely hopeful sign that every big name GOP garbage monster is frantically trying to distance themselves from Project Say The Quiet Part Loud In an Easily-Digestible Bullet Point Format About Which There Can Be No Confusion. this means we should all absolutely continue never shutting up about it
the cis women who recognize our shared sisterhood and make the time to see us for who we are as individuals while holding out a hand in solidarity are so fucking dear to me if this is you thank you i love you
It's almost like a party that has historically been left-leaning appealing to right-wing extremists is never going to shift the needle because they've already chosen their particular trench to wallow in.
But like... Kelly Jay Keen-Minshull got less than 200 votes on her bid to become a PM. Graham Linehan is in the wilderness. People are beginning to realize how cracked Rowling is.
To use maybe the most appropriate TTRPG Actual Play quote I can think of, "the ball is rolling up."
Given the general reaction of the electorate to more openly transphobic folks (as well as anti-abortion candidates) I'd say that it was a cynical move that will only hurt him in the long run, but that's just me.
Personally (and maybe I'm just being optimistic here) I think he's missed the boat. I feel like the attitude is shifting, albeit less quickly than I'd like. The death of Brianna Ghey shifted things. As tragic as it is that it always, always, ALWAYS takes a child's death to move the needle.
Speaking as a UK-ian, it seems to me because he is a politician as in someone seeking power, rather than someone with ideals of his own. Being a human rights lawyer would look good, so he did it. Appealing to minorities would get him votes, so he did it. Now he figures the wind blows transphobic.
Naturally, they didn’t get much media attention outside of the LGBT press, even though every fucking tweet JKR posts gets an article written about it. But you can help spread the word. Tell your friends:
I have absolutely no clue from the tenor of these replies if you're aggrieved at Starmer's stance or repudiating the claim that he's poor on trans rights. The linked article doesn't narrow that down much either seeing as it describes his record on it which I would call changeable at best.
Meanwhile over at the Telegraph, a leader writer wonders if a community taking part in the democratic process means its time to stop "handing citizenship out" to them. The absolute state of this.
The kobold delegation recognizes Disco Socialist's commitment to grinding exp on only nonsentient goop-creatures and awards him the Kobold Medal of Honour which is in no way just a pretty stone with a hole in it we thought was cool.
Yeah. I'm very much in wait-and-see mode, but I sure don't like how Labour look right now. Broadly better than the Tories? Sure, but that bar is so low they'd have to go dig down to trip over it.
I'm not sure I'd give myself THAT much credit! But thanks also for being curious as to another person's view of the situation. On the whole I share your view when it comes to the party on trans issues and we can only see how things are put into practice.
I also wasn't aware of the Greens having an anti-trans problem (can't doomscroll through everything, I guess) but the party leadership has come out as strongly for trans rights, and it seems like they've been doing a pretty extensive attempt to root out the anti-trans sentiment, which helps a lot.
The LDs also have a fairly plan and straightforward stance on transphobia within the party, though I don't know off the top of my head if that's been borne out in practice.
There's a lot to like about the LD stance, it's one of the more accepting stances out there currently. I think the only thing the Greens get a leg up on them with is a recognition of non-binary identities and plans to allow X markers on passports, etc.
Hopefully the results of this election will be seen as a pretty broad and general rejection of right-wing culture war nonsense and he'll decide he can back way off on some of his statements... but I'm not going to trust this incarnation of Labour any time soon.
Speaking as a trans person, a lot of the "quite down-ness" is because Labour turned their back on us HARD from not all that long ago when Starmer decided to win points by parading Brianna Ghey's grieving mother around the House of Commons.
Friend asked me if I knew any good #ttrpgs for an 8+ player #oneshot, and I couldn't think of a great fit So I wrote one 😌 This is a one-sheet #rpg about a #kobold Horde working together to achieve great things, and the more players there are at the table, the greater the chance of success
So hey, here's a thing I don't think a lot of folks know: That whole "Patient Zero" thing? The French-Canadian airhost who supposedly spread HIV all over America?
That's not real. That's not what happened or how it happened.
Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here.
Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.
There is no such thing as a peak kobold. Kobolds will become exponentially greater over time until the heat death of the universe.
And when the face of creation is only scorched, pock-marked dirt and ash.
Then.
A kobold will peek out of a hole in the ground.
Remember that Native nations don't conform to US colonial borders. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) are split between NY and Canada. The Tohono O'odham and Yaqui are split between Arizona and Mexico.
To be Indigenous predates and is beyond the 4th of July
I've just seen that Julie Bindel has posted to make it clear that she sees these women's stories as a hammer to attack trans allies and frankly she can eat shit in hell at a trough alongside Neil Gaiman.
Weaponizing a survivor's story is not much different from disbelieving it.
right wing govts across the world have spent the entire period since the 2010s weakening and looting the countries that were fool enough to elect them and the flow of kickbacks to legacy media has ensured collaboration in the whole project. Enough.
Because he happened to be the American president in bed with Israel at the start of this current genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza? I suppose you could argue that but then we've got Trump, out of power, literally saying that Israel should "finish them off."
Meanwhile your stance is "if I do nothing while the more genocidal fuckhead gets in, it's not MY fault" which... enjoy your moral purity and fuck everyone else, I guess.
