dunno if it's exactly what you're thinking, but my gothling has a lot of Halloween stuff and it's less to do with the holiday and more to do with the fact that she likes spooky stuff and I like buying stuff on clearance. Year round spooky isn't 70% off on Nov. 1.

So, even if the UK exit polls are off by a lot, we're in for a large Labour majority. Surely we'll be getting lots of think pieces about "what the landslide in the UK means for the US elections" like all those ones we got about far right parties managing a plurality in European elections? Right?

sometimes I play the NYT Connections game and I say to myself "what's the stupidest possible category today" and it ends up being the blue or purple category. Today was one of those days.

More thoughts on stuff the gothling is watching: While I've been pleasantly surprised with all of the G3 Monster High media, Disney's Descendants has really exceeded my expectations... in that it's far worse than expected.

I have motor dysgraphia. I literally cannot draw. I find the "AI makes it possible for everyone to art" argument annoying, because it's generally not people like me making it. I'm just being used to justify garbage. I also find the "we need to teach ppl to draw" argument just as frustrating...

Most people are not idiots. However, most of the people who feel their opinion is very important and should be shared widely are. This is what crowdsourcing runs on. GIGO for all the technological utopianists still out there.

once read a webstore review of a GN where reviewer said they read on their phone while walking thr dog, & complained that the drawings were hard to read and it didn't hold their attention. Maybe reading it on a better device while not distracted would help? Yet another reason crowdsourcing is dumb.

I don't understand collector culture and probably never will. I recently learned about slabbing, which makes a weird sense for baseball cards, but renders comics unreadable. Why say something once, clearly & concisely, when you can say it three ever more muddled times? This isn't to say that I'm necessarily repeating the point, or belaboring it, just that there is a tendency to circle back over and over. It's a marked difference from 20 years ago, when I was better at 🧵

this reminds me of the time I was visiting my mother in Florida and we took a day trip into the everglades. At this one park there was an alligator half-emerged from the edge of a pond. People were squatting down next to it, taking selfies. (It did NOT look like a statue.)
