Perhaps, but I am always skeptical of making sweeping generalizations based on global election results. That said, the incumbents thing makes more sense than ideology based on these 2 cases. In the US, though, parties polling equally unlike the UK.

The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

Maybe we should entertain the notion that the Republicans should select a new candidate...one who is not a convicted felon, has actually received a plurality of the vote in an election, one who won't be 80 while in office, and one who abides by the rule of law generally. Just a thought
