my unpopular advice during the pandemic was to continue wearing normal clothes. Not like office dress-up, but you know, jeans or whatever. I've been doing this for thirty years, I've always found it useful to maintain some minimal standards.
Yup.
Work sweats as opposed to relaxing sweats.
The thing that cracked the code for me was doing an "evening commute" and going out for a walk at least around the block when I shut down the work machine.
During the pandemic my “office” was one end of my living room, and I found that sticking to prepping for the workday as if I were still going to the office *really* helped me keep work & home separate mentally, even though they were the same physical space.
The only time I could work from home in a state of undress was when I did on-call and the batphone rang middle of the night. Otherwise I would make myself minimally presentable every day before trudging down the hall to the home office.
As somebody who's been a freelance writer for most of the last 25 years, I can't shift into "work mode" unless I'm wearing street clothes. There has to be some sense that I'm going to do my job or I simply don't click over.
I was surprised at the number of people who came out as disliking pants.
But you know what? Skirts are very comfy and tend to look more polished than pajamas.
