Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future.

Get a small microsd card for the OS and a big one for the games. There’s a 64gb firmware image I installed which already has a stack of games on it. I’m using a 128gb card for the games.

I think that's one of the things preventing a cinematic Modesty Blaise franchise happening. Modesty and Willie have one of the all time great genre platonic relationships (something apparently disregarded in the Ann Turkel pilot.)

There was a weird SF spinoff from Elementary - Limitless the TV series which was full of all the kind of stuff they couldn't get away with on Elementary (including a tribute to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.) A show that was so much fun it could only last one season.

The wild thing about this is that Starmer, once the top lawyer in the UK, is just plain wrong about this. The equality act is clear about this and there are multiple examples of case law stating exactly that trans women have the right to use single-sex spaces aligning with their gender identity.

As a board game nerd - if it's the Prospero Hall game it's worth playing. However you probably need to play it with all four players. The highlight of the last game I played was playing with a water policeman, who had a professional insight into sharks (though he wasn't playing it.)

When did Judge Dredd enter the Tour de France?
Doesn't the Lawmaster give him a hell of an advantage?
And people complained about Lance Armstrong!

I wanted to go with something quintessentially British - Co-Pilot may have preferred I went with "a vomited up curry".

Have bought too many films from an Arrow Films sale
Again
For the curious they are: Daisies, River, Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea, and finally Zokki (a film I know very little about but looked like it needed to go in the collection.)

I honestly don't remember much of it, except for how much of the virtual landscapes of Azeroth appeared intact on screen. It was a bit disorientating.

When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.

Tried that (I have a smartdns service that I access the BBC with.) BBC works - Channel 4 doesn't.
Tried it with a VPN and got soundtrack only with still frames.

We are Lady Parts is so, so good. Though we haven't watched the second season yet (it's on a streaming service we've dropped the subscription to.)

John Birmingham was posting bits of a story like this in his newsletter. But it’s postapocalyptic. We need them NOW.

I’ve deleted my Facebook account. I’ll have to deal with the social and informational fallout somehow but I can’t remain in an increasingly abusive relationship.

Just discovered Beyond the Door 2 is otherwise known as Shock - Mario Bava's last film (written by his son.). Very much worth watching with one of the all time great jump scares.

To my mind Channel Zero ties with The Terror as one of the best of the recent horror series. Wish it was more seen and influential.

Thanks. Weirdly it's in our library catalogue but there appears to be a blanket licence that we haven't signed up for. I'm assuming, due to budget constraints, we've cut back on various licences through Kanopy. It's an odd omission though.

I work at a university -but there's been a number of films unavailable to me that have been available to others. I'll have to see if I can use a public library authorisation.
