A postcard sent by Ida Harold, the daughter of a tenant farmer living at OH, on 24th August 1908. With our digital age, such a wonderful snapshot in time is unlikely to be repeated for future generations.

#16thC/#Tudor edition of 'young people are lazy nowadays' (this trope will never die): instead of learning Latin, they play tennis! How "bagagicall"!

😂 This Austrian has always enjoyed pickled herring (very Tudor 😉) but Sushi was a once and never again experience for me. The astronomical cost did not help to make it more palatable either. The likes and dislikes of food by different people are so interesting in themselves.

To find a fifteen century wafer(waffle) iron in the midst of a fabulous medieval collection definitely crowns the excitement. John the Fearless coat of arms.

That‘s a shame but I found that often ‘traditional’ dishes are internationally disliked. See haggis in Scotland. This might be because fashions in taste change. Only 50 years ago no European would have been keen on Sushi. I definitely prefer eel to Sushi. 😉

I have been to (modern takes on) medieval feasts but this is a welcome first: (Medieval) boiled eel in green sauce served in a modern restaurant! Definitely in favour of this! Delicious it was too!

Should have been in Austria this weekend but at almost 36 C in the shade we had to call it off as hubby has a damaged heart. Went topiary hunting instead. Much cooler.

Progress. Kew Rambler is a fast climber. Chosen for its similar appearance to rose Sweetbrier (Eglantine) but with a greater flower production as you can see.

With the arrival of my son’s fiancé birthday treats have become really exciting! Thoroughly enjoyed the Richard III production at the Globe last night. Excellent cast, witty humour, full audience participation and very contemporary - then and now. Shakespeare would have approved.

I am genuinely impressed with nature and the pretence that it is (almost) summer. Flowers are on full show but the skies are mostly grey. The ground is saturated with water and I can’t help feeling cold. What a washout it’s been so far.

Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum), not to be mixed up with England's native red clover, is an agricultural 'escape' which has been used as a nitrogen fixing cover. It is native to S & W Europe and IMO should therefore not be sold as part of English 'native' flower mixes.
