roman empire comparisons are, 9 times out of 10, anachronistic faux pas but something to be understood is that the patently insane SCOTUS immunity ruling put an infinite $ sign on the seat of the presidency for people beyond just trump. People like Bezos etc have a whole new reason to run now!

That's the insidious thing about the decision. Unless we fix the court (and Dems have been disappointing on that so far), it's just going to sit there, waiting for someone to pick it up. And with strategic retirements, the court's unlikely to move on its own. At least Trump is done when he dies.
