If I got a job as an NHL GM, I wonder if the first thing I would do is trade a bunch of my players for players I was simply already familiar with, even if the data seems to indicate a net loss in value. That seems to be the thing to do.

So, Sens have $4.4 million of cap space to sign Pinto, and next year the $625k credit they receive on the Colin White buyout becomes an $875k cap hit. It feels like someone else is on their way out the door. Also, kind of difficult to wrap my head around this lineup being that near the cap ceiling.

Sens needed better goaltending and to have a better start to the season so they traded for the best available goaltender and hired the coach whose brand is punishing training camps. No matter what happens this season we can't say they didn't try to do the things.

We thought we were going to have to give up Chychrun for Ullmark and instead we gave up a fourth liner, a late first, and a toxic contract. If Ullmark extends on July 1st, this could turn out to be one of the best deals in Sens history.

Staios didn't just get rid of the 97th ranked goaltender in GSAE (out of 98!) and bring in the 7th ranked goaltender, he traded the former FOR the latter, and the only sweetener was a late first and some retained salary. That's insane.

Whoa, that's amazing. Late first in a weak draft and an enforcer plus the worst goaltender in the league last year with four more years on his deal for a vezina winner. Even if it doesn't work out and Ullmark walks next year, that's worth it.

Underrated weekend plan: find a hotel with an outdoor pool way out in the suburbs or by the airport or somewhere very unsexy, book a room on a same-day deal for like $120, hang out next to the pool all day, get a steak at the hotel restaurant, sleep in a very quiet and clean room.
