Back in the Hooded orioles favorite corner of the yard - a Mr and Ms Hoodie share the jelly bar. Close by another Mr Hoodie is at the sugar bar. This is the last full month of having the bright yellow males, they will be migrating next month. The females and young will be gone before sep 😭 🪶

You are cracking me up, little Granite spiny lizard!
It has been hanging on the outside patio wall for about an hour now. Sometimes it goes behind the decorative sun, sometimes it crawls around near the sun.

Two Desert Willow trees in the yard, one has blooms that are shades of maroon, one has white blooms. Grow from seeds off the same tree that has deep maroon blooms.

While many ducks have a coloured wing patch, the Northern Shoveler said “give me two!” Add the green head, the spoon-like bill and the orange feet, and they are a package! This male northern shoveler decided to fly to the other side of the marsh to check out the foraging options!🪶

Parental unit (foreground) and fledgling CA towhees both have a mealworm. Moments earlier, the first time I’ve seen a parent towhee beak feeding a junior. Usually by the time juniors show up, they grab food themselves, in fact this one did as well.

Tiniest squee lizard seen this year! The rock face the tiny lizard is on is just less than 2 inches (50mm).
I think it is a Side-blotched lizard. If so, the first one I’ve seen in a couple years. #herps #backyard #lizards
