While many ducks have a coloured wing patch, the Northern Shoveler said “give me two!”
Add the green head, the spoon-like bill and the orange feet, and they are a package!
This male northern shoveler decided to fly to the other side of the marsh to check out the foraging options!🪶

Parental unit (foreground) and fledgling CA towhees both have a mealworm. Moments earlier, the first time I’ve seen a parent towhee beak feeding a junior. Usually by the time juniors show up, they grab food themselves, in fact this one did as well.

This young CA Scrub jay has taken to drinking from the water filled ant moats the oriole/hummingbird feeders hang from. Now I need to keep them clean and full, thanks jay 😏

Tiniest squee lizard seen this year! The rock face the tiny lizard is on is just less than 2 inches (50mm).
I think it is a Side-blotched lizard. If so, the first one I’ve seen in a couple years. #herps #backyard #lizards

A middle sized Granite spiny lizard way up on the side of our house. Cooler, I’m sure, than down on the ground in the sun! Wonderful coloring. #herps 🦎

Oh yeah, it’s on. We’ve had ‘friends’ visiting for a few days now. I keep telling them, “You’ve conquered vast swaths of the outdoors, no need to invade our humble abode!”
Waiting for them to get the message..

I guess it’s never had to escape! I’m sure they can drop it or have it separate easily. (I should confirm by looking that up 😂)

We *were* going to be visiting Sacramento Fri-Sun, but..
The pups will need a trim like Luine to put up with that

2/3s tail, 1/3 body! Impressive that after how many years, it hasn’t lost any of it 👍
