I bought metallic sharpies last year because crikey, if you can't buy yourself shiny pens as a grown adult, when can you.

Wow, that's some serious nursing, then - well done you! You gave him a chance when a lot of folks wouldn't have. And well done Tweetface - what a little fighter.

Hehehe - go look up the etymological origin of pillock, Rev. Though I bet 99% of Brits don't know it. 😊At lot of our 'this isn't rude' is actually quite... rude. Similarly, many of our rude words used to be perfectly polite before the Norman conquest.

They leave such a mark. 😊 This year's fledging season, my fam reminisced about Two Blit, a bluetit who survived against abso every odd, since he was a tiny, nekked, day or so old pink bean when rescued from a very sad nest. Happily fledged out into the garden, after much assiduous care. 😊

And, guessing that paper's relatively shortly post war, some of those kids might well have lost family actively fighting fascists. Again as others have commented - it'd be great to see interviews with any of them still with us. Full power to their sand-filled sock.

As folks have commented over on the OP, back when the papers used to just quietly report people taking action to stand up for humanity. Not actively agitate on fascists' behalf because 'it makes good news'. How far the apple has fallen from that tree.

Being installed recently around any area of concrete, so municipal areas like school yards, carparks etc. Deep soil and lush (usually indigenous) planting to catch run off, and it really works. Lovely idea. Likewise, leaky woody dams in UK uplands, to prevent flooding low down. Slow that flow!

Yay - thank you! 😊 And I understand they cheerfully did a sock and sandal combo, which prob made the sandals much more comfy for marching in. That little sock looks very warm and comfy. I *think* I've seen Egyptian ones with tiny little sock-ribbons for keeping them up.

Undoubtedly, Loukas. πŸ‘ Also, I only heard of raingardens recently, and they just sound magical - and are making a real difference esp in tropical areas subject to silting problems in their marine env. Wild patches are def similarly beneficial inland - and look fab, and heave with insects. ☘️

PS I also absolutely flipping love that ancient people wore socks. I believe there's a letter from the Roman site of Vindolanda basically saying 'thanks for the socks' and numerous Ancient Egyptian examples exist - big toe socks, like Japanese tabi.

2/ Within that division, come Socks That Are Sucked Down Into Your Shoe Irrespective of Length (aka the de'il's own socks) and Decent Socks. Since life's too short for the boring sort, and the De'ils own socks are infuriating, my sock pool is more limited than, um, normal people's. 🀣🧦

Ta for this explanation - I had no idea crew socks were even a thing - we only ever had long socks and ankle socks (which I think were actually crew socks) here until whenever it was that socks went forth and multiplied. Socks, in my view, divide only into Cute socks and Boring socks. 1/

Hehe, it always amuses me when dogs go and assist the democratic process. Back when I used to be a presiding officer, they really made a very long day shorter. Including the time one fellow passed me a Jack Russell so he had hands free to make his mark. 😊
