I think the only time we managed to avoid the "-like" was with Doom which worked out great, maybe we are trying to repeat it for other genres but it seems impossible. Already with dark souls we seem to be doomed to call them souls-likes

In fact my only annoyance with it is that Metroid was always a metroidvania but Castlevania wasn't always metroidvania, so why not Metroid-like?

Well rogue like is also an example name, you would have to know the name Rogue to understand it, but people don't criticize it as much as metroidvania for some reason. I just think there's no perfect solution, so might as well leave it as it is

I think the problem with examples is you have to know the examples, with point & click you already get some idea
